The Role
We are looking for a Network Specialist to design, implement, and maintain the network architecture underpinning CIX’s trading platform. This role focuses on low-latency networking, connectivity to brokers and vendors, and security controls, ensuring seamless market access and compliance.
The Network Specialist will collaborate with system administrators, operations, and external partners to provide a highly available and secure trading environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Configure and maintain firewalls, routers, and switches across colocation facilities and cloud environments.
- Manage secure connectivity for brokers and market participants (FIX sessions, VPNs, dedicated circuits, ACLs).
- Onboard network connectivity to and from third party connectivity providers (cross connects, LAN extensions, extranets).
- Monitor and optimize network performance to maintain low latency and stability.
- Implement and monitor DDoS protection, IDS/IPS, and other network security measures.
- Troubleshoot connectivity issues with brokers, telecom providers, and internal systems.
- Configure, update and maintain access control lists.
- Ensure redundancy and failover capabilities are tested and maintained.
- Provide Tier 2/3 network support during incidents and outages.
- Open to flexible work hours as needed based on extended hours trading.
- Other duties as assigned, supporting CIX technology and operational needs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Networking, or related discipline.
- Prior experience as a network engineer, specialist or network administrator.
- Hands-on experience with network design and maintenance, firewalls, routing, switching, and VPN configuration.
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, multicast, VLANs, QoS, and network monitoring tools.
- Experience with network security technologies and best practices.
- Ability to work in latency-sensitive or mission-critical environments.
- Experience with designing, building, managing unicast and multicast network traffic for market data distribution
- Cisco network certification
- Experience designing and building low-latency network connectivity working at an ATS, Exchange, vendor or a broker/dealer in an equities capital markets domain
- Proficiency with Linux/Unix systems administration and shell scripting.
- Familiarity with FIX protocol, trading connectivity, or financial exchange environments.
- Experience with scripting/automation (Bash, Python, Ansible).
- Working knowledge or prior experience with UDP Multicast and market data distribution
- Exposure to monitoring and logging systems used in hybrid infrastructure.
- Experience in network and information security best practices
- Be responsible for the backbone of Canada’s newest ATS.
- Gain experience in network management, financial markets and real-time trading systems.
- Collaborate with a lean, high-impact team.
- Competitive compensation, benefits, and growth opportunities.
Salary Range: $110,000 - $130,000 CAD. Please note that the salary range is a guideline only. The salary offered may vary based on the successful candidate’s relevant knowledge, skills, and experience.
