Title: Senior Accountant
Employment Type: Full-Time
Location: Mississauga, ON (4 days in office)
Salary: $100,000–$120,000 base + 15% target bonus
Industry: Infrastructure
Position Type: New Role
About the Opportunity
Our client is a privately held, high-growth infrastructure company operating across North America and internationally. They develop and operate large-scale assets, and their operating portfolio is expanding rapidly.
As completed projects move from construction to operation, this Senior Accountant takes ownership of their financials. Reporting to the Manager of Accounting, you'll act as a site-level controller for your assigned portfolio: owning the month-end close, key balance sheet areas and clear, decision-ready P&L reporting. The work goes beyond a traditional property accounting seat, covering equipment, maintenance and operating costs, with a strong emphasis on variance analysis and forecasting.
This is not a rigid, legacy finance environment. The team values people who are adaptable, ask why, and solve problems quickly. You'll help automate processes, sharpen monthly variance analysis and explore practical uses of AI across the finance function, all while keeping a strong controls mindset.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the month-end close for assigned operating sites, including journal entries, accruals and balance sheet reconciliations
- Own site-level P&Ls and deliver clear variance analysis and commentary under IFRS
- Prepare expense forecasts and support annual budgeting and ongoing forecasting
- Maintain and update fixed asset and lease amortization schedules
- Partner with Operations to understand day-to-day activity and validate equipment, maintenance and operating costs
- Review key vendor contracts and confirm that spend and billing align with agreed terms
- Approve bills and transactions processed by the AP and AR teams
- Work alongside Project Accounting, FP&A, Supply Chain and Treasury so costs are recorded in the right period and entity
- Prepare for external audits and build efficient controls that protect the integrity of financial balances
- Simplify, document and automate recurring processes as the portfolio scales
What You Bring
- Experience in a senior accounting role with independent ownership of month-end close
- Proven ability to run a P&L and manage balance sheet accounts end to end
- Working knowledge of IFRS, including fixed asset and lease accounting
- Intermediate Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables)
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with close attention to detail
- Confident working cross-functionally with Operations and vendors outside of Finance
- Regular, hands-on use of AI tools to streamline processes and improve analysis
- Open to occasional travel (approximately two trips per year), plus site visits during onboarding
Nice to Have
- CPA designation (strong experience can substitute)
- NetSuite and Procore Financials experience
- Background in construction, real estate or capital-intensive infrastructure accounting
- Public accounting background with a move into industry
- Track record of identifying and implementing process improvements
