Original job description

Senior Financial Analyst

Employment Type: Full-Time

Location: Etobicoke, ON (Hybrid: 3 days in office)

Salary: $80,000–$95,000 + 10% bonus

Industry: Wellness & Fitness Services

Position Type: New Role

About the Opportunity

Our client is a well-established, private equity-backed premium fitness and wellness club operator. It has nearly 20 locations across Ontario and Alberta. The business is expanding: it will enter a new Western Canadian market in 2027.

This Senior Financial Analyst role sits in a newly built FP&A function and reports directly to the VP, Finance. The work is forward-looking. You’ll own the budgeting and forecasting cycles, starting with membership unit forecasts and building through labour and SG&A to full projected financial statements. You’ll then turn those results into reporting that leadership and the board rely on.

As the sole analyst in FP&A, you’ll have real ownership and visibility. You’ll work weekly with Sales, Operations, Studio Fitness and Business Intelligence and present to the executive team monthly. Existing models have room to grow, a data warehouse upgrade is planned, and AI tools are coming over the next few years, so there’s plenty of scope to shape how performance is measured across a growing multi-site business. The package includes a club membership for you plus one, three weeks’ vacation, benefits after three months and a hybrid schedule.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the annual budget, the monthly full-year forecast, and the three-year and five-year projections that feed quarterly and annual board reviews
  • Build and maintain membership unit forecasts, the core revenue driver, and translate them into labour, SG&A and projected income statement, cash flow and balance sheet
  • Forecast personal training and studio revenue, sales and margin by location
  • Prepare the monthly and quarterly reporting package for leadership and the board, covering budget vs. actuals, key drivers, risks and opportunities
  • Deliver variance analysis and commentary on results vs. budget and forecast, with clear root-cause drivers
  • Partner with Sales, Operations and Studio Fitness on outlooks, and explain what changed when results miss plan
  • Work with Facilities on repairs, maintenance and supplies budgets, balancing spend against member experience
  • Support cash flow forecasting, capital planning, capex analysis and covenant reporting as the company funds new club growth
  • Develop and enhance KPIs and dashboards with the Business Intelligence team
  • Improve and automate existing models, processes and data flows to reduce manual work and cycle time
  • Provide forecasts and schedules to Accounting in support of the annual audit

What You Bring

  • CPA designation, or actively pursuing it
  • 2–3 years of FP&A experience in hospitality, retail, CPG, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, supply chain and logistics, medical technology or technology
  • Hands-on budgeting, forecasting and financial modelling experience, including sales and margin forecasts
  • Strong variance analysis and commentary skills, plus KPI reporting
  • Experience owning a P&L, or a strong track record of directly supporting one
  • Advanced Excel, working knowledge of SQL, and comfort working with large data sets
  • Clear communication, including explaining financial concepts like ROI to non-finance partners
  • Strong organization and the ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision, especially through month, quarter and year-end

Nice to Have

  • Unit or sales mix variance analysis (rate vs. mix impact on gross margin), or SKU-level analysis
  • Power BI, Alteryx, VBA
  • Private equity, board or covenant reporting exposure
  • Multi-location financial reporting
