Original job description

Clarity is redefining how private companies and their shareholders access liquidity. Through its institutional-grade platform, Clarity brings together buyers, sellers, and issuers to facilitate secondary transactions in venture-backed, pre-IPO companies, introducing efficiency, transparency, and standardization to an otherwise opaque asset class.

Recognized as one of Canada's fastest-growing companies and backed by leading U.S. investors, Clarity is profitable, well-capitalized, and building a high-performance team to meet growing demand and pursue new market opportunities.

Interested in learning more about life at Clarity? Check out our careers page to see how you can grow with us!

As a Senior Full Stack Engineer, you will be a hands-on contributor to the frontend and backend apps powering our platform. You will learn Elixir on the job from your colleagues and technical leaders. You will collaborate with technical leaders and the founding team to deliver new features to our application. You will work closely with your colleagues to refactor and improve the codebase; create a beautiful, functional, and delightful user experience; and build an excellent and supportive engineering culture.

Please note: Hiive does not use Ruby or Ruby on Rails. We do not have Ruby code in production now nor plan to do so in the future. This job is open to Ruby developers who have a desire to learn and work in Elixir and Phoenix. We will teach you both on the job and expect you to invest in self-learning to grow your skills.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

Hands-on develop features across both frontend and backend, shipping React/TypeScript code from day one.
Build customer-facing products across the entire stack, from the data model to the UI.
Learn and work in Elixir, applying your experience picking up new programming languages.
Work proactively and self-sufficiently, learning on the job in a fast-paced environment.
Collaborate closely with a small team, including directly with the founders, to build both the product and the company.
Adapt quickly to a fast-moving environment and shifting priorities.

Required Experience:

Substantial expertise building interfaces with React and working in Typescript.
Strong experience building backend API services using Ruby and Ruby on Rails.
Have a philosophy in writing automated backend tests.
Translating design mockups (e.g. Figma) into frontend implementation.
Working closely with product designers on feedback for UI/UX changes.

Preferred Experience:

Understanding of the ins and outs of data modeling and software architecture for developing performant and maintainable code.
Experience building or working with GraphQL APIs.
Working closely with product managers on understanding use cases, prioritizing features, and scoping work.
Exposure to Elixir or other functional languages.

Compensation, Benefits & Perks:

Highly competitive salary commensurate with experience and contribution.
Opportunity to participate in ownership of a rapidly growing early-stage startup through our employee stock option plan.
Comprehensive 100% employer-paid health and dental premiums, a health and personal spending account.
A dedicated desk in our Vancouver, BC HQ, in the heart of downtown, with a fridge stocked with healthy snacks and drinks, an onsite gym, and a gorgeous rooftop amenity. Open to Canada and US-based remote candidates.
Enjoy a $20-per-day commuter benefit for every day you work in our Vancouver HQ.
An engaging social calendar, including bi-weekly catered lunches, bi-weekly “Friday bar,” team workouts, annual summer party, and holiday party, two “onsite” all-team retreats each year, semi-annual team-building events, and Hiive Womens’ Network events.
Significant opportunities for growth into team leadership and management roles.
Entrepreneurial culture and a small and dynamic team.
Sponsorship, immigration, and relocation for exceptional candidates.

Benefits & Perks:

Opportunity to participate in ownership of a rapidly growing company through our employee stock option plan.
Comprehensive 100% employer-paid health & dental premiums and a Health/Personal Spending Account for Canadian employees. (An employer-subsidized benefits program is available for US-based team members).
