Clark Builders is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Project Coordinator Intern to join our Operations team and support the Red Deer Regional Hospital Project.

This landmark project is one of the largest in Clark Builders' history and represents the largest single investment in healthcare by the Government of Alberta. The project will run from August 2024 through April 2032 and includes the construction of a new Ambulatory Care Facility, along with extensive renovations to the existing Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.

All construction activities will adhere to LEED Silver sustainability standards, demonstrating our commitment to environmentally responsible building practices.

This student position will be part of our Operations team and will provide support to Project Managers and Superintendents across all aspects of the construction process. Responsibilities will include monitoring project plans and schedules, organizing and participating in stakeholder meetings, supporting project documentation, and helping ensure project milestones and deadlines are achieved.

This is a 4-, 8-, or 12-month work term based in Red Deer, Alberta.

Reports to: Project Manager(s) and/or Superintendent(s)

Responsibilities

Support project start-up activities, including tendering and bid evaluations, subcontractor kickoffs, utility and site service applications, permitting, stakeholder communication, quantity take-offs, and project scheduling.
Support project execution and document control activities, including Requests for Information (RFIs), Site Instructions (SIs), Submittals, Change Requests (CRXs), and Change Orders (COs).
Support the implementation and maintenance of the project Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) plan.
Facilitate, record, and distribute meeting minutes while following up on action items and commitments.
Monitor and coordinate trade scopes of work, including tracking productivity, progress, and performance.
Assist with on-site problem solving and support the RFI process.
Gain exposure to and support basic project accounting activities.
Adhere to Clark Builders' policies, procedures, and safety requirements, and support others in maintaining compliance.
Support the development and maintenance of strong relationships with trade partners, consultants, clients, and other project stakeholders.
Participate in project planning, coordination, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to interpret complex information and recommend practical solutions.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage deadline-driven tasks in a fast-paced construction setting.
Understanding of Lean thinking, collaborative planning, and continuous improvement principles.
Ability to read, understand, and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and construction documents.

Qualifications

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field.
An interest in construction, project coordination, and working in a field/site environment.
Previous construction, project coordination, or related work experience is considered an asset but is not required.
Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills, with a willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
Familiarity with construction software, processes, or project management tools is considered an asset; however, prior experience is not required.
Must be willing and able to work full-time in Red Deer, Alberta for the duration of the work term
