Data Migration Specialist

About the Role
ClearRisk's implementation work involves moving customer data – often complex, agency- or municipality-specific data – into our platform's data model. This role exists to own the accuracy and integrity of that process: defining how source data maps to our data model, verifying that mappings and transformations are correct, and executing migrations directly using our ETL tooling.
This is not strictly a software development role, nor is it a traditional test/QA role. It is a role for someone who is obsessed with getting data right, and who wants to understand why a field maps where it does, why a transformation is needed, and what value it provides for the customer – not just confirm that a process ran without error.
What You'll Do
- Participate in requirements gathering and define source-to-target data mapping specifications for customer integration and migration projects, in partnership with the Business Analyst and other Implementation team members
- Own quality verification of data mappings and transformations – both pre-load and post-load – ensuring data lands correctly, cleanly, and in a way that reflects the customer's actual business need
- Execute standard migrations/integrations directly using ClearRisk's internal ETL tooling (Excel-competency level of complexity)
- Partner with developers on complex, custom-coded integration builds, validating that implemented mappings match the intended specification and that output data is correct (a QA/validation role on these projects, not a build role)
- Document mapping decisions and transformation logic clearly enough that intent ("why this maps here") is understood by others, not just the mechanics
- Flag data quality issues, mapping ambiguities, or edge cases for resolution
What You'll Bring
- Strong Excel/spreadsheet fluency; comfort with ETL-style tooling
- Demonstrated obsession with data accuracy/quality, ideally with examples of catching subtle data issues and not just obvious ones
- Ability to understand and question business context – why a piece of data matters, not just where it goes
- Comfortable working closely with developers without being one. Can read a data model, ask good questions, and evaluate output without writing code
- Data-focused coding experience (Python, SQL, etc.) would be an advantage
- Experience with AI-assisted tooling (e.g. using LLMs to safely assist with mapping suggestions, data review, or documentation) would be beneficial
- Experience with handling sensitive data in regulated environments (e.g. PII/PHI, healthcare, financial services, government) would be a bonus, as the data this role touches can be sensitive in nature
- Familiarity with insurance and risk management would be a plus
