Original job description

About Cleer

Dental offices spend hours every day on insurance: checking coverage, chasing claims and pre-authorizations, and writing up clinical notes. We think almost all of that work can happen without anyone on the phone or typing it in.

Cleer already handles a large part of it with AI that dental offices and DSOs across Canada rely on every day. Our goal is for Cleer to run the insurance side of every dental office, quietly in the background.

The role

This is one of Cleer’s first engineering hires. You’ll work directly with the founders and our investors on what we build, how we ship it and how it evolves. You’ll get real ownership from day one, and what you build goes live to real dental offices quickly, so you’ll know within days whether it worked.

We’re not looking for someone who already knows everything. We’re looking for someone who learns fast, figures things out on their own and wants to grow with the company.

What you’ll work on

  • Integrations. Connect Cleer to the software dental offices already use, including older systems, so data moves reliably without anyone re-entering it.
  • Automation. Build the systems that keep insurance work moving on its own, so nothing falls through the cracks.
  • AI agents. Make our AI agents more reliable and accurate as they take on more of the work dental offices do today.

Beyond those, you’ll:

  • Own problems end to end. Take an idea from a rough concept to a system dental offices rely on, and run it in production.
  • Make pragmatic decisions. Weigh speed, simplicity and reliability, and pick what fits the problem.
  • Test new ideas honestly. Prototype new products quickly and tell us which ones are worth building.
  • Stay close to the customer. Understand how dental office staff actually work, and use that to simplify both the product and the code.

What we’re looking for

Mindset

  • Curious. You want to understand how things work, not just get them working.
  • High agency. When something’s broken or unclear, you go fix it or find the answer instead of waiting to be told.
  • Self-directed. You don’t need day-to-day management. Give you a problem and you’ll run with it.
  • Fast learner. You pick up new tools, codebases and domains quickly, and you’re comfortable not knowing everything yet.

Work ethic

  • This isn’t a 9 to 5 job. We’re a small team building something big, and we want someone who cares more about the outcome than the hours.
  • Willing to grind. When something important needs to ship, you put in the work to get it done.
  • Nimble. Priorities change quickly at a startup, and you adapt without losing momentum.

Experience

  • Strong software fundamentals. You’ve built and shipped real software at a job, a co-op, a startup or on your own. What you’ve built matters more than years of experience, and a degree isn’t required.
  • Python or TypeScript. You’re strong in at least one and comfortable working across the full stack.
  • Bonus: LLMs, voice AI, third-party integrations or healthcare data.
  • Based in Ottawa and legally able to work in Canada.

Our stack

You don’t need experience with our exact stack, and we expect everyone to keep learning as our systems evolve. You’ll work mainly in TypeScript and Python, on a modern cloud stack, with LLMs and voice AI.

Compensation

  • $110,000 to $140,000 CAD base, depending on experience
  • Equity
  • Unlimited PTO

If you want to own systems that dental offices depend on every day, we’d like to hear from you.
