Summary:

We are looking for a Senior Product Manager to lead product for AI Search. Lawyers live in their documents, emails, and matters, and they need to find the right one fast. More and more, they expect search to understand what they mean, not just match the words they typed. This role owns getting us there.

You will own product for an engineering and ML team that is moving Clio from keyword search to hybrid lexical and semantic search across documents, communications, and records. The tech underneath is changing quickly, so we care more about how you measure and improve search quality than which retrieval technique you like best.

This role is available to candidates across Canada (excluding Quebec) and the US. If you are local to one of our hubs (Burnaby, Calgary, or Toronto) you will be expected to be in office twice per week on our Anchor Days.

What Your Team Does

AI Search owns search at Clio end to end. That starts at document ingestion and runs through retrieval, ranking, and the global search bar that shows up in Manage, DMS, Grow, and Work. We build it once as a shared platform (the document pipeline, the search API, and our vector and full-text search platform) so every product gets the same great search. A firm using Manage, Grow, and Work should be able to search across all of it in one place. The same retrieval layer also feeds Vincent and our other AI features, so the work here shows up well beyond the search bar.

What You’ll Work On

Set the product vision for search. Figure out what lawyers are actually trying to find, where keyword search lets them down, and the fastest path to fixing it.
Turn “why can’t I find my document?” into a roadmap with dates, and have the eval data to show when search actually got better.
Run planning and execution with a team of engineers and ML engineers. Ship often and keep iterating.
Own how we measure search quality. Work with engineering and ML on relevance, ranking, and query understanding, and use A/B tests, click-through, and offline evals to decide what ships.
Work with DMS, Manage, Grow, Unified Comms, and our AI teams to bring documents, emails, and records into one search. Permissions have to be right, customer AI opt-out has to be respected, and we build around what customers are actually searching for.
Make the product calls on the search experience. Decide which results, filters, and metadata to show, whether name and content search should come together, and how we explain a semantic match. Balance relevance, latency, and cost at our scale.
Keep the whole Clio suite in mind. Search should pull our products together.
Stay on top of what is happening in AI retrieval and legal tech, so we know what customers will expect from search before it shows up as a support ticket or a lost deal.

What You Bring

Product management experience, ideally on search, information retrieval, or AI products. Legal tech experience is a plus.
A track record of shipping search or retrieval that measurably improved relevance, and a good sense for what actually helps people find things vs. what just demos well.
You can lead and motivate an engineering and ML team in a fast-moving environment where people own their outcomes.
Strong technical chops. You can hold your own with engineers and ML folks on lexical, semantic, and hybrid retrieval, embeddings, and ranking across a big multi-product suite.
Clear communicator. You can connect what customers need with what the tech can do, and get engineering, ML, design, and partner product teams behind one roadmap.
Good judgment on which search problems to go after, and which ones to leave alone.
Experience with both 0-1 products and scaling existing ones.

The expected salary range for this role is $157,300 to $212,800 USD. Initial placement within the range is informed by geographic region, experience, and skillset, with room to progress as impact and tenure grow. Final offer amounts will vary based on candidate profile.
