Original job description

About Clutch:

We’re on a mission to reinvent the way people buy, sell, and own cars. Are you game?

Clutch is Canada’s largest online used car retailer, delivering a seamless, hassle-free car buying and selling experience to drivers everywhere. Customers can browse hundreds of cars from the comfort of their home, get the right one delivered to their door, and enjoy peace of mind with our 10-Day Money-Back Guarantee… and that’s just the beginning. Named two years in a row to the Globe & Mail’s list of the Top Growing Companies in Canada and also awarded spots on Deloitte’s Technology Fast 50™ and Fast 500™ lists, we’re looking to add curious, hard-working, and driven individuals to our growing team. Headquartered in Toronto, Clutch was founded in 2017 and currently services Ontario, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. Clutch is backed by a number of world-class investors, including D1 Capital, Altos Ventures, BMO Capital Partners, Canaan, Real Ventures, and others. To learn more, visit clutch.ca.

Finance at Clutch

We’re growing rapidly, with in‑house re‑conditioning centres, a captive lending platform and a national logistics network, we combine manufacturing‑grade operations with tech‑enabled consumer experience. We plan to be public company ready within 24–36 months and are building the finance foundation to get there. Strong systems keep our numbers accurate, our close on time, and financial information flowing clearly across the company, and they give leadership the confidence to make bold, well-timed decisions.

About the role:

Clutch is looking for a Director, Financial Reporting to step in as a critical leader on our finance team. Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, you will architect the framework that turns thousands of data points per vehicle into clean, decision‑grade financial reporting. You will take charge of IFRS compliance, external audit readiness, and the design and implementation of a strong internal controls environment ahead of IPO readiness. You will lead a growing team that loves the craft of accounting as much as you do, taking ownership of the reporting cycle and technical accounting while partnering with Financial Systems leadership to drive ERP evolution.

What you’ll do:

Build and run the monthly, quarterly, and annual close; deliver accurate financial statements and supplementary financial information on tight deadlines.
Design and implement internal‑control, risk‑management, and policy frameworks to achieve NI 52‑109 readiness.
Lead external audits and statutory reporting; manage relationships with auditors and regulators.
Drive ERP/finance‑stack evolution in partnership with Financial Systems leadership
Build, mentor, and scale an accounting/reporting team; set clear performance standards and foster a culture of ownership and precision.
Build and leverage automations and AI to improve efficiency, reduce cost and risk.
Own cost and inventory accounting to support accurate financial statements.

What we’re looking for:

CPA with 8-10+ years’ progressive accounting leadership
Big 4 experience required; subsequent industry experience is considered an asset but is not mandatory
Command of IFRS plus advanced knowledge of revenue recognition, manufacturing, leasing, consolidation, and complex equity / debt transactions.
Proven experience establishing and strengthening internal control frameworks and implementing modern ERP and financial systems; experience with Oracle Fusion is considered an asset.
Experience building and leading teams, with a relentless attention to detail, ownership mentality, and a passion for building processes from the ground up.
Deep manufacturing or complex supply‑chain experience: cost accounting, inventory valuation, production labor, and overhead allocation are second nature.
Superb communicator able to translate accounting insights to non‑finance partners.

Why You'll Love It At Clutch:

Be part of a disruptive, tech-driven company that is transforming the automotive industry - one of the largest and fastest-growing B2C startups in Canada.
A unique opportunity to work at the center of the company, helping shape how Clutch communicates, operates, and executes as we scale.
Freedom to innovate and ownership of your role - work on meaningful and challenging projects that have a direct impact on the business.
Collaborate with a talented and passionate team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Competitive pay and equity incentives.
Comprehensive health and dental benefits.
Opportunities for growth and development in a rapidly scaling company.

Employment Type:
New, Permanent Full-Time

Compensation & Benefits:

Salary range: $150,000 - $170,000 annually plus equity incentives.
Benefits: Comprehensive healthcare, dental, vision, prescriptions, life insurance, and dependent coverage; starting from day 1.
Pay decisions reflect skills, performance, market benchmarking, responsibilities, and working conditions.

Clutch is committed to fostering an inclusive workplace where all individuals have an opportunity to succeed. If you require accommodation at any stage of the interview process, please email talent@clutch.ca.

We use AI-assisted tools to help screen and assess applications. Final hiring decisions are made by our team.
