POSITION TITLE: Supportive Living Coordinator

PROGRAM: Operations

POSITION TYPE: Fixed Term Contract, October 2026 to June 3,2027

HOURS OF WORK: Part-time fixed term contract

Thursday to Saturday 1:00pm to 10:30pm ( 28.5 hours per week )

POSITION SUMMARY: The Supportive Living Coordinator plays a critical frontline role in delivering high-quality, recovery-oriented supportive housing services to individuals living with complex mental health challenges and concurrent disorders. As a primary point of contact within the home, the Coordinator provides compassionate, trauma-informed, and client-centered support to individuals experiencing mental illness, addiction, intellectual disabilities, concurrent disorders, trauma-related impacts, and other vulnerabilities.

This position requires strong crisis intervention skills, sound judgment, excellent documentation practices, and the ability to balance structure and flexibility in a dynamic residential environment. The Coordinator ensures a safe, respectful, and recovery-focused living environment while supporting clients in achieving stability, independence, and personal wellness goals.

REPORTS TO: Assistant Manager

LOCATION: Calgary

Key Service Responsibilities And Specific Accountabilities

Client-Centered Support & Service Planning

Collaborate with clients and their Recovery Alberta Clinical support teams to develop, implement, and regularly review individualized Service Plans with measurable, strengths-based goals.
Support goal attainment through hands-on coaching, teaching, modeling, and skill development related to daily living (e.g., hygiene, nutrition, medication routines, budgeting, housekeeping, scheduling, and community integration).
Deliver structured psycho-educational programming and skill-building groups as directed, including recovery education, emotional regulation, relapse prevention, life skills, and wellness planning.
Provide individual support sessions focused on goal setting, motivation, self-regulation, and problem-solving.
Collaborate with the Recovery Alberta team to participate in the interview process, creation of Individualized Service Plans, Safety plans, etc., as required.
Assist clients in identifying, accessing, and navigating community resources including but not limited to: healthcare, income supports, addiction services, vocational programs, recreation, and cultural supports.
Facilitate house meetings and promote cooperative living, conflict resolution, shared accountability, and community participation within the residence.

Crisis Intervention, De-escalation & Supportive Care

Respond to and effectively manage crisis situations using verbal de-escalation techniques, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention principles, and trauma-informed practice.
Provide supportive care for individuals exhibiting challenging behaviours related to mental illness, addiction, intellectual disabilities, trauma histories, or emotional dysregulation.
Conduct risk assessments and implement appropriate safety planning in collaboration with the team and external supports when required.
Apply a harm reduction approach in supporting clients experiencing substance use challenges, prioritizing safety, dignity, and incremental change.
Administer lifesaving interventions such as CPR, First Aid, Naloxone, and emergency response procedures as necessary.
Communicate critical incidents promptly to supervisors and complete all required follow-up documentation in accordance with agency protocols.

Documentation, Reporting & Accountability

Maintain the highest standard of documentation accuracy, timeliness, and professionalism in accordance with CMHA Calgary policies and privacy legislation.
Complete comprehensive and objective case notes, incident reports, shift change notes, logbook entries, communication updates, daily tracking logs, and accountability records.
Maintain accurate and current client files including Service Plans, Outcomes Star assessments, safety plans, and progress tracking tools.
Document behavioural observations, interventions, and outcomes clearly to support continuity of care and risk management.
Communicate proactively with team members, supervisors, and interdisciplinary partners regarding client status, emerging concerns, and service coordination.
Adhere to all internal documentation deadlines and quality standards as directed

Safety & Environment

Maintain the highest standards of physical, emotional, and psychological safety across all CMHA Calgary Supportive Living sites and homes.
Perform regular rounds and perimeter checks as instructed.
Identify, report and document environmental, behavioural, or operational risks.
Promote a culture of safety, respect, and inclusion within the home.
Perform cleaning and sanitation duties according to shift rotation and infection prevention guidelines.
Support implementation of emergency preparedness procedures and agency safety protocols.

Advocacy & Collaboration

Advocate for clients to ensure they receive adequate care, treatment, and information from community providers and CMHA services.
Liaise regularly with psychiatrists, case managers, healthcare providers, guardians, families, and community partners to ensure coordinated, wraparound support.
Support clients in establishing and maintaining peer, family, and community support networks.
Participate actively in team meetings, case consultations, and program development discussions.

Professional Practice Expectations

Apply trauma-informed practice principles in all service delivery.
Demonstrate a recovery-oriented, person-centered approach in every client interaction.
Use a harm reduction framework when supporting individuals experiencing substance use challenges.
Maintain professional boundaries and ethical conduct at all times.
Engage in ongoing learning to enhance knowledge related to complex mental health presentations, concurrent disorders, intellectual disabilities, trauma, and supportive housing best practices.

Accompany clients into the community for appointments, activities, and other supportive engagements, and travel throughout the city as required, including the use of public transit when appropriate.
Contribute to the organization’s accreditation and continuous quality improvement efforts by engaging in mandatory training, adhering to accreditation standards, and supporting documentation and evaluation processes as required.

Qualifications And Skills

Bachelor of Social Work (BSW), Bachelor of Psychology, or a recognized diploma or undergraduate degree in a human services field. Equivalent education and/or experience may be considered.
Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working with individuals with mental health conditions in residential, supportive living, or skill development environments.
Demonstrated experience working with complex and concurrent disorders, including co-occurring mental health and substance use challenges.
Experience supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities, trauma histories, and behavioural complexities.
Strong crisis de-escalation skills and experience managing high-risk or emotionally charged situations.
Demonstrated commitment to the recovery model, harm reduction, and trauma-informed care.
Current Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) certification.
Current First Aid and CPR certification.
Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training (or willingness to obtain).
Ability to work flexible shifts as required.
