Job Description :

This leadership position requires a blend of deep technical expertise and a passion for people development. We’re looking for someone who approaches engineering challenges with a rigorous, architectural mindset and who can guide a team to deliver high-quality, sustainable solutions. If you are a curious, pragmatic, and energizing leader who thrives on building both great software and great teams, we would like to hear from you.

Responsibilities:

Serve as the direct line manager for a chapter of Data Engineering Specialists, fostering their professional growth and expertise through continuous coaching, mentorship, and on-the-job development.
Define the critical data engineering skills needed for the future - particularly around emerging AI technologies - and proactively build the chapter’s capabilities to meet evolving domain demands.
Lead your chapter in designing, building, and maintaining robust, scalable, and reliable data pipelines and infrastructure while establishing best practices across coding standards, CI/CD, testing, and infrastructure management.
Propose and implement architectural solutions and strategies in collaboration with the Data Architecture team to improve data quality, reliability, and accessibility.
Champion a collaborative and positive chapter environment, facilitating knowledge sharing and a culture of continuous learning and operational excellence.
Collaborate with Data Scientists, Analysts, and business partners to understand their data needs and provide the necessary engineering solutions.
Conduct regular performance check-ins and annual performance reviews, focusing on growth and constructive feedback.
Assess chapter member capabilities to inform workforce planning, recruitment, and talent development strategies.
Serve as an active, hands-on member of an agile squad (approx. 30% of your time), contributing directly to the squad's goals and deliverables.
Support the practical implementation of Data Governance, security, and privacy policies. Provide feedback on the same to improve the practice.

Qualifications & skills:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline required.
7+ years of experience in a data engineering or software engineering role with a data focus.
3+ years of proven experience in a leadership, mentorship, or coaching role. Formal management experience is a strong asset.
Must have proficiency in writing complex, optimized SQL queries.
Understanding of various data formats, and their applications (SQL, Filestore, Objectstore, NoSQL)
Advanced programming skills in Python for data engineering (e.g., Pandas, PySpark, data pipeline frameworks like Airflow or Dagster).
Deep experience with cloud data platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure), including data warehousing (BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift) and data processing services.
Proven experience building and optimizing ETL/ELT data pipelines.
Experience or understanding of Agile methodologies.
People-first leader committed to team well-being, continuous growth, and leveraging collective expertise through intellectual humility.
Results-oriented with a strong bias for action, effective prioritization, and the adaptability to quickly master new business domains.
Driven by intellectual curiosity to solve complex problems, paired with a strong sense of ownership and a rigorous standard for data quality and reliability.
