About The Role

As a Senior QA Automation Engineer – Java & Playwright, you will make an impact by developing scalable automation solutions and leading end-to-end testing activities for enterprise applications. You will be a valued member of the Quality Engineering team and work collaboratively with development teams, business stakeholders, and cross-functional partners to deliver reliable, high-quality solutions.

In This Role, You Will

Design, develop, and maintain scalable automation frameworks using Java and modern software design principles.
Build and execute automated test suites for UI, API, and backend validation using Playwright and related technologies.
Lead end-to-end testing activities, including test planning, execution, functional validation, defect management, and delivery ownership.
Implement test data management and automation best practices to improve test efficiency, reliability, and overall quality.
Collaborate with development and business teams, contribute Insurance or Wealth Management domain expertise, and provide meaningful quality metrics and status updates to senior stakeholders.

Work Model

We believe hybrid work is the way forward as we strive to provide flexibility wherever possible. Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring three days per week in a client or Cognizant office in Toronto, Ontario. Regardless of your working arrangement, we are here to support a healthy work-life balance through our various wellbeing programs.

The working arrangements for this role are accurate as of the date of posting. This may change based on the project you are engaged in, as well as business and client requirements. Rest assured, we will always be clear about role expectations.

What You Need To Have To Be Considered

At least six years of experience in software testing and test automation.
Strong proficiency in Java, including Streams, Lambdas, Collections, and modern design patterns.
Hands-on experience designing, developing, and maintaining Java-based automation frameworks.
Strong experience using Playwright for UI automation, API testing, and backend validation.
Strong manual testing capabilities, including test design, execution, functional validation, and defect lifecycle management.
Experience with Git-based version control and CI/CD pipelines, along with a solid understanding of test data management and automation best practices.
Proven ability to lead testing activities independently and drive deliverables through successful completion.
Excellent communication, stakeholder-management, and collaboration skills, including experience producing QA metrics, status reports, and executive-level quality updates.

These will help you stand out

Domain knowledge in Insurance and/or Wealth Management.
Working knowledge of Kafka, MongoDB, and AWS S3.
Experience working in Agile or Scrum delivery environments.
Exposure to enterprise-scale testing programs and digital transformation initiatives.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and leadership capabilities.

We're excited to meet people who share our mission and can make an impact in a variety of ways. Don't hesitate to apply, even if you only meet the minimum requirements listed. Think about your transferable experiences and unique skills that make you stand out as someone who can bring new and exciting things to this role.

Where the successful candidate may fall within the range depends on relevant education, work and/or management experience and other business-related and job-necessary qualifications.
