Python Developer

Title: Python Developer

Engagement: Contract, with potential for FTE conversion

Compensation: $60-65/hour

Location: Toronto, ON- Hybrid

Primary Technologies: Python, Databricks, Azure Functions, APIs, Azure SQL Database

Experience: 5-10 years preferred

Key Responsibilities:

• 
  
• Python Development: Develop, maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance existing Python-based applications and services.
• 
  
• Databricks Development: Work within the existing Databricks environment to support development, enhancements, and issue resolution.
• 
  
• Azure Functions & APIs: Develop, maintain, and modify Azure Function Apps and their associated APIs.
• 
  
• Codebase Investigation: Analyze existing application code, understand system dependencies, identify root causes, and implement code-level fixes.
• 
  
• Jira Backlog Delivery: Independently pick up development tickets, assess requirements, make necessary code changes, and deliver solutions.
• 
  
• Azure SQL: Work with applications and services backed by Azure SQL Database, including investigating data-related issues.
• 
  
• Application Enhancements: Implement improvements, bug fixes, and modifications to existing functionality.
• 
  
• Team Collaboration: Work alongside existing developers and technical team members to support ongoing platform development and maintenance.
• 
  

Must-Have Skills:

• 
  
• Python - 5+ years preferred: Strong hands-on development experience, debugging, troubleshooting, and modifying existing code.
• 
  
• Databricks: Practical development experience within Databricks environments.
• 
  
• Azure Functions: Experience developing or maintaining Azure Function Apps and API integrations.
• 
  
• REST APIs: Strong understanding of API development, integration, and troubleshooting.
• 
  
• SQL / Azure SQL: Strong SQL skills and experience working with database-backed applications.
• 
  
• Existing Codebase Development: Demonstrated experience maintaining, debugging, and enhancing established enterprise applications.
• 
  
• Independent Problem-Solving: Ability to investigate unfamiliar code, identify technical issues, and implement fixes without extensive guidance.
• 
  

Preferred / Nice-to-Have:

• Experience working with Azure-based enterprise platforms.
• 
  
• Previous experience supporting large, complex application codebases.

• Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and structured development workflows.

• Banking or financial services experience.

• Experience working in Agile teams using Jira.
•
