Original job description

Client: Banking Industry

Role: Senior React Native Developer

Type: 6-12 months Contract

Toronto, ON (1 days/week onsite)

Primary Focus: ~80% React Native / ~20% Native Mobile & adjacent development

PR: $70-72/hr (As per experience)

Role Overview

CIBC is growing its mobile engineering team and is looking for experienced Senior React Native Developers to support multiple mobile initiatives across existing and greenfield applications.

This is a hands-on mobile development role. The majority of development will be completed using React Native and Expo, with a smaller portion requiring interaction with the native iOS/Android layers for troubleshooting, integrations, and platform-specific functionality.

Candidates must have meaningful, recent production experience with React Native. This is not intended for primarily web-based React developers who have had limited exposure to React Native.

Developers will work within Agile squads alongside Product, Design, QA, and Engineering teams, taking features from requirements and Figma designs through development, testing, and implementation.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, and maintain production mobile applications using React Native and Expo
Build new mobile features from requirements, specifications, and Figma designs
Work within Agile squads alongside Product, Design, QA, and other engineers
Own features through the full development lifecycle from requirements through implementation and QA
Integrate mobile applications with REST APIs
Troubleshoot issues across React Native and, when required, the underlying native iOS/Android layers
Work with Swift/iOS development when functionality requires native implementation
Apply established native mobile development patterns and best practices within React Native applications
Develop automated unit/component tests using Jest and React Native testing libraries
Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, security reviews, and engineering standards
Support both existing applications and new greenfield mobile development
Contribute to CI/CD and mobile release processes using EAS Build/EAS Update, Jenkins, and GitHub Actions
Leverage GitHub Copilot and AI-assisted development tools throughout the engineering workflow
Participate in the team's move toward spec-driven development, using specifications from requirements through implementation and QA
Work with emerging AI-enabled engineering workflows, including Figma MCP integrations and Spec Kit

Must-Have Skills

Strong, recent hands-on experience developing production React Native applications
Experience working with modern/recent versions of React Native
Strong hands-on experience with Expo
Strong TypeScript/JavaScript development experience
Experience working within Agile development squads
Ability to take Figma designs and independently translate them into production-ready mobile features
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with Product, Design, QA, and Engineering teams

Strong Assets / Nice to Have

Previous native iOS development experience, particularly Swift
Native Android development experience
Experience troubleshooting React Native issues within native mobile layers
Experience with EAS Build and EAS Update
Experience with Zustand and/or TanStack
Experience with Expo-based navigation
Experience with Jenkins and GitHub Actions
Web application development experience
Experience with GitHub Copilot or other AI-assisted development tools
Exposure to spec-driven development
Experience with Figma MCP servers, Spec Kit, or similar AI-enabled engineering workflows
Experience developing applications within banking, financial services, or other highly regulated environments

We may use AI-enabled and/or automated tools to support parts of our recruitment process, including application screening, interview scheduling, and candidate communications. These tools are used to enhance consistency and efficiency. All hiring decisions involve human review and are not based solely on automated processing.

The Company offers a total rewards package in accordance with all applicable federal, provincial, and local laws and requirements. Benefit eligibility and offerings vary based on role, employment status, and work location. For contractor positions, benefits are limited to those entitlements and protections required by applicable law, which may include (as applicable) vacation pay, public holidays, leaves of absence, and other legally mandated benefits or payments.
