Role Description The Structured Cabling Estimator and Subject Matter Expert is a full-time, on-site role based in Canada. This role is responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for structured cabling projects, including materials, labor, and timelines, in alignment with customer requirements and industry standards. The individual will review drawings, specifications, and site conditions; develop bills of materials; and provide accurate proposals and technical recommendations to sales teams and clients. Day-to-day tasks include collaborating with project managers and engineers, acting as a technical resource on cabling design and implementation, and ensuring compliance with relevant codes and best practices. The role also involves participating in site surveys, supporting project delivery with technical guidance, and continuously updating knowledge of cabling technologies and standards to maintain subject matter expertise.
Qualifications
- Strong expertise in structured cabling systems, including copper and fiber infrastructure, cable pathways, and data center/telecom room design.
- Proficiency in project estimation, including reading and interpreting drawings, specifications, and RFPs, and creating accurate bills of materials and labor estimates.
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards and codes (e.g., TIA/EIA, BICSI, local building and electrical codes) and best practices for installation and testing.
- Experience collaborating with sales, project management, and technical teams to develop proposals, solutions, and implementation plans.
- Ability to conduct site surveys, assess existing infrastructure, identify risks, and recommend practical, cost-effective solutions.
- Solid analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in estimates and documentation.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proficiency with common productivity and design tools (e.g., Excel, estimating software, CAD or similar tools for reviewing drawings) is an asset.
- Proven ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines, prioritize tasks, and work independently in an on-site environment.
