Data Modeler – Azure / Data Architecture

Location: Toronto, Canada

Duration: Long-Term Contract

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Data Modeler to support cloud and data modernization initiatives. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in data modeling, SQL, Azure data platforms, data lineage, and data governance, with experience working on enterprise-scale data environments.

Key Responsibilities

Design and maintain Conceptual, Logical, and Physical Data Models for enterprise data platforms.
Develop data mappings, source-to-target mappings, data flows, and data lineage.
Translate business and technical requirements into scalable and reusable data models.
Collaborate with business, data engineering, architecture, and technology teams.
Develop and validate data models using SQL and Azure data platforms.
Work with Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse, and Azure Data Factory (ADF).
Support data integration, transformation, migration, and cloud modernization initiatives.
Ensure data models follow data governance, data quality, security, metadata, and architecture standards.
Perform data analysis and SQL-based validation to ensure model accuracy and completeness.
Maintain model documentation, metadata, mappings, and lineage information.

Must Have

7+ years of experience in Data Modeling / Data Architecture.
Strong hands-on experience with Conceptual, Logical, and Physical Data Modeling.
Strong SQL and database concepts.
Hands-on experience with Azure Cloud data platforms.
Experience with ADLS, Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse, and ADF.
Experience with ERwin, PowerDesigner, or similar data modeling tools.
Strong understanding of data lineage, source-to-target mapping, metadata, and data governance.
Experience supporting data integration, migration, and transformation projects.
Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
Banking / Financial Services experience preferred.
