Position Summary:
The Internal Audit (IA) function is an independent, objective assurance and advisory team responsible for evaluating and enhancing the effectiveness of risk management, internal controls, and business processes. The team works closely with business leaders and key stakeholders across the organization to assess risks, strengthen governance, and identify opportunities for operational improvement.
The Manager will supervise and provide guidance to audit team members and be responsible for leading the organization's Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR) program. The Manager may also contribute to internal audit and advisory engagements across various business functions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Managing the end-to-end execution of the organization's ICFR program in accordance with the requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX), including identifying key business processes, conducting walkthroughs, developing process and control documentation, and providing guidance to control owners.
- Conducting the annual risk assessment and financial statement scoping exercise.
- Leading the testing program to evaluate the design, implementation, and operating effectiveness of key control activities.
- Working with control owners to investigate control gaps or deficiencies, assess severity, and provide practical recommendations to address findings and strengthen internal controls.
- Reporting the status of testing, deficiencies, and remediation progress to Internal Audit and Finance leadership, and preparing consolidated program updates for senior stakeholders.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with key stakeholders, including senior management, control owners, and external audit teams.
- Developing and mentoring junior staff members and overseeing outsourced service providers, as applicable.
- Contributing to internal audit planning by assisting with risk assessments, developing audit scopes, and preparing planning documentation.
- Developing audit procedures tailored to key business and operational risks.
- Performing or overseeing audit fieldwork, including gathering and evaluating evidence, assessing process and control effectiveness, and identifying control deficiencies or opportunities for operational improvement.
- Drafting clear, well-supported audit findings and reports that articulate issues, root causes, and potential impacts, and providing practical, cost-effective recommendations to management.
- Validating the remediation of identified issues by reviewing evidence submitted by action owners, confirming closure, and maintaining issue-tracking documentation.
- Supporting the annual risk assessment process and other departmental or organizational initiatives, as needed.
Qualifications and Skills:
- 5+ years of relevant experience in audit, internal controls, accounting, or financial reporting. A CPA designation and experience with a Big Four accounting firm or equivalent organization are considered strong assets.
- A bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in accounting, finance, or a related field. Additional professional certifications, such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or other relevant designations, are considered assets.
- Experience working with U.S.-listed entities subject to SOX requirements, with a strong understanding of financial reporting risks, internal controls, and audit testing methodologies. Familiarity with U.S. GAAP is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience leading teams, achieving objectives, and mentoring junior staff while fostering technical growth, professional development, and a collaborative team environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, sound professional judgment, and the ability to adapt between structured and unstructured work plans.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with and influence a broad range of stakeholders, including senior leadership.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and contribute positively to a high-performance team culture.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Experience with audit management platforms, data analytics, and artificial intelligence tools is considered beneficial.
