Original job description

Forward Deployed Engineer (Full-Stack)

Location: Toronto, ON (Onsite)

Compensation: CAD $150,000 - $200,000 Base + Meaningful Equity (0.1% - 1%)

Experience: 1-3 Years

Work Arrangement: Full-Time, In-Person

This isn't a traditional full-stack engineering role. You'll operate as a Forward Deployed Engineer, spending approximately 75% of your time building software and 25% embedded directly with manufacturing teams, identifying problems firsthand, shipping solutions quickly, and validating that your work creates measurable operational impact. Rather than receiving polished product requirements, you'll uncover problems yourself by working closely with machinists, operators, and engineers. You'll own solutions from discovery to deployment and play a key role in shaping how software accelerates manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain production-grade full-stack applications.
  • Enhance internal operational systems and manufacturing software tools.
  • Develop new product features for proprietary manufacturing platforms.
  • Spend time on the factory floor observing workflows and identifying bottlenecks.
  • Rapidly prototype solutions and iterate based on user feedback.
  • Work directly with machinists and engineers to improve operational efficiency.
  • Own production reliability and platform uptime when issues arise.
  • Drive projects from problem discovery through deployment and adoption.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or related field
  • 1-3 years of professional full-stack software engineering experience.
  • Experience shipping software products into production environments.
  • Strong product mindset and ability to work in ambiguous situations.
  • Comfortable gathering requirements directly from users.
  • Interest in manufacturing, hardware, robotics, or physical systems.
  • Willingness to work fully onsite in Toronto.
  • Ability to take ownership beyond just writing code.
  • Experience with Node.js or modern web application development.
  • Previous startup experience.
