Role Overview :

We are seeking a Construction Contracts Specialist to support the review, negotiation, administration, and ongoing management of construction contracts.

Reporting to the Legal Director, this position will work closely with Estimating, Project Management, Operations, Procurement, and Finance to identify contractual risks and ensure project teams understand their obligations.

The successful candidate will review and negotiate routine agreements within established guidelines, prepare contract markups and summaries, monitor contractual requirements, and escalate complex or high-risk matters to the Legal Director. This is an individual contributor position with no direct reports.

Key Responsibilities:

Contract Review and Negotiation

Review owner contracts, subcontracts, purchase agreements, consulting agreements, amendments, and related construction documents.
Identify key commercial and contractual requirements, including payment terms, indemnities, insurance, bonding, warranties, limitations of liability, notice provisions, and termination rights.
Prepare contract markups, risk summaries, and recommended revisions for review by the Legal Director.
Negotiate routine contractual terms within established company guidelines.
Coordinate feedback from Estimating, Project Management, Operations, Procurement, Finance, and other internal stakeholders.
Escalate complex, unusual, or high-risk contractual matters to the Legal Director.

Project Contract and Claims Support

Support project teams in understanding contractual obligations, notice requirements, deliverables, and key deadlines.
Review change orders, change directives, requests for quotation, amendments, and other project correspondence for contractual implications.
Prepare and track contractual notices related to delays, changes, payment issues, extensions of time, and potential claims.
Assist with compiling schedules, daily reports, correspondence, cost information, and other supporting claim documentation.
Monitor compliance with contractual notice periods and escalate missed or approaching deadlines.
Support compliance with applicable prompt-payment, holdback, lien, and adjudication requirements.

Contract Administration and Documentation

Maintain complete and accurate contract files, registers, risk logs, notice logs, change-order logs, approval records, and renewal dates.
Coordinate contract review, approval, signature, distribution, and document-control processes.
Maintain version control for contract drafts, markups, scopes of work, exhibits, and supporting documentation.
Monitor contractual deliverables, approval requirements, deadlines, and outstanding action items.
Assist the Legal Director with contract research, claims documentation, contractual correspondence, and status reporting.
Support the continued improvement of contract templates, standard clauses, review checklists, approval workflows, and contract-management procedures.

Qualifications:

College diploma or university degree in Law, Paralegal Studies, Law Clerk Studies, Business Administration, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
Approximately 3–5 years of experience reviewing, negotiating, or administering contracts within construction, infrastructure, engineering, utilities, or another project-based industry.
Direct experience working for a general contractor, civil contractor, specialty contractor, or engineering-construction firm is strongly preferred.
Experience with prime contracts, subcontracts, purchase agreements, amendments, change orders, contractual notices, and claims documentation.
Familiarity with Canadian construction contract forms, including CCDC and CCA documents, general conditions, and supplementary conditions.
Working knowledge of the Ontario Construction Act and its prompt-payment, holdback, lien, and adjudication requirements.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple contracts, deadlines, notices, and competing priorities.

What We Offer

Expected Base Salary: $85,000 - $100,000.
