Original job description

Your Return to Public Practice. Ready to trade one set of books for many?

You started your career in public practice, then moved into industry to expand your technical skills and industry experience. You have gained tremendous value and perspective from those career experiences, but you are missing the variety, the client relationships, and the steady growth that public practice offers.

Our client, a boutique accounting firm with established roots, nearly 40 years of expertise, and trusted relationships with a diverse mix of small and medium-sized businesses and individuals across the North Okanagan, is in search of an experience, designated professional accountant to join their growing team.

This firm sees your industry experience as a true asset. You will bring an owner’s perspective to clients, and you will join a dedicated, loyal, and humble team that invests in its people for the long term. Here, the Partners know your name and your work, and your growth as a leader is part of the plan.

What you can expect.

Recognition. Your industry years count. Operating experience is recognized in your level and compensation, and clients benefit from someone who has sat on the other side of the desk.
Variety without the big-firm grind. A diverse portfolio of owner-managed businesses, individuals, and trusts, with realistic busy-season expectations.
A clear path forward. Reporting directly to the Partners, with a well-defined road map for your career.
Work-life balance in the Okanagan. The opportunity to grow your public practice career without giving up the lifestyle that brought you here. This firm values balance, so you have time to enjoy everything that makes the North Okanagan home.

What you'll do.

Lead client engagements from planning through completion, including preparing and reviewing compilation financial statements and T2 corporate returns.
Prepare and review T1 personal and T3 trust and estate returns.
Support tax planning and compliance work, including Section 85 rollovers and CDA calculations, and carry out tax research.
Review bookkeeping, GST filings, and information slips and summaries.
Build strong and trusted client relationships, from onboarding onward, and continuously add value using your skills, knowledge and expertise that you have honed along the way.
Correspond with CRA and other tax authorities as needed.
Mentor and develop team members through thoughtful review and supportive, hands-on guidance
Contribute to special projects as needed.

What you bring.

A minimum of 4 years’ experience in public practice, combined with industry experience in a senior accounting or finance role.
CPA designation.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
Proven leadership and team motivation abilities and hands on supervisory experience.
Solid understanding of accounting principles (GAAP, ASPE, ASNPO).
Familiarity with Canadian income tax compliance, plus a willingness to refresh and deepen your tax knowledge.
Experience with Caseware/CaseView, CCH iFirm, and tax software such as Taxprep or Profile is considered an asset.
Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
A collaborative, client-first approach and a commitment to confidentiality.

What’s offered

A competitive compensation commensurate with experience, health and wellness benefits, a culture that supports work-life balance, and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
