About the Opportunity

An established construction company is seeking a Demolition Estimator to join its team in Vaughan. This confidential opportunity is suited to someone with strong knowledge of demolition methods, project costing, and tender preparation who enjoys working closely with operations and project teams.

The successful candidate will prepare accurate, competitive estimates, assess project risks, and support a smooth transition from tender submission to project execution. Title and compensation are flexible for a candidate whose experience aligns with the position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed estimates and proposals for demolition projects, including selective demolition, interior strip-outs, and full structural demolition.
  • Review drawings, specifications, tender documents, designated substance surveys (DSS), and other project reports to establish scope, requirements, and potential risks.
  • Complete quantity takeoffs and assess labour, equipment, subcontractor, trucking, disposal, and material costs.
  • Attend site visits and pre-bid meetings to evaluate existing conditions, access restrictions, neighboring structures, and logistical challenges.
  • Work with operations to establish practical demolition methods, sequencing, equipment requirements, and production assumptions.
  • Assess requirements for hazardous material abatement and coordinate pricing with qualified subcontractors.
  • Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations, identifying scope gaps and confirming pricing assumptions.
  • Account for waste handling, hauling, disposal, recycling, and potential salvage recovery.
  • Prepare clear bid submissions outlining scope, inclusions, exclusions, assumptions, and clarifications.
  • Track tender deadlines, addenda, and outstanding information to support complete and timely submissions.
  • Support post-tender discussions, scope reviews, and pricing revisions.
  • Prepare estimate handover packages and communicate key assumptions, risks, and cost allowances to project teams.
  • Assist with pricing change orders and review completed project costs to improve future estimates.
  • Maintain estimating records, cost databases, and relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Previous estimating experience in demolition, with the ability to independently develop detailed project pricing.
  • Strong understanding of demolition methods, equipment capabilities, labour productivity, and site logistics.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, DSS reports, and tender requirements.
  • Familiarity with hazardous material abatement scopes, waste disposal requirements, and demolition-related safety considerations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with estimating or digital takeoff software.
  • Strong attention to detail, commercial judgment, and the ability to manage multiple tender deadlines.
  • Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with operations, project teams, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • A valid driver’s licence and the ability to travel to project sites as required.
  • Post-secondary education in construction management, civil engineering technology, or a related discipline is an asset. Equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
  • Experience with excavation, site remediation, or heavy civil estimating is an asset.
