ROLE PURPOSE

This position will assist the supervisor in providing work direction, and guidance to residence workers. Ensures that clients’ physical, emotional, social, educational, and medical needs are met. Assists clients to enhance quality of life with activities of daily living and the development of life skills.

STATUS AND CLASSIFICATION

This position is unionized.

HOURS (40 hours per week)

Sunday to Thursday, 1615 to 0015

Key Accountabilities

Assists the supervisor in providing orientation, training, work direction, and guidance to residence workers by performing duties such as clarifying program policies, reviewing work, and scheduling residence workers. Provides input to residence workers’ performance evaluations.
May oversee the operation of the residence in the absence of the supervisor or as directed.
Participates in the assessment, goal setting and program planning (Personal Service Plan) for individuals living in a residence. Documents, implements, and provides input into the evaluation of the program.
In cooperation with the Program Manager, is available to all resource staff, in case of emergencies. This may include carrying the pager or cell phone 24 hours a day.
Serves as a Role Model for Residence Workers and regularly attend to self-care and other personal needs
Supports in establishing a work environment that creates positive communication for all Staff that maintains and encourages the Program and Connective culture, values and mission.
As assigned, conducts team meetings regularly to provide training, convey information, problem-solve, solicit input, track progress and promote discussions of important issues
As assigned, organize staff work schedules. Ensures adequate supervision and staffing based on minimum staffing ratios and specific needs of the individuals. Adhere to budgetary constraints regarding overtime
Provides mentoring, training, reinforcement, or redirection, as necessary for Residence Workers
Ensures well-balanced and nutritious meals, while including the client in the selection, purchase and preparation of grocery items.
Assures facilities are kept neat and well maintained that is free from garbage, waste, leftover food, harm reduction gear and other debris
Performs residence maintenance and housekeeping duties such as laundry, sweeping, mopping floors, mowing lawns, inventory, shopping, cleaning equipment, and food services.
Oversees vehicle maintenance and cleanliness by reporting issues promptly, arranging for needed repairs and regularly scheduled maintenance. Support in the development of strategies to better oversee vehicle maintenance and cleanliness
Maintains required program documentation. Responsible for completing, maintaining and ensuring case notes, shift summaries, progress reports and other forms of documentation as outlined in the Program or Connective Policy and Procedures
Ensures appropriate use of program petty cash, gas cards, grocery cards and funds belonging to individuals served; follow auditing protocols. Conduct petty cash reconciliations on a regular basis
As assigned, supports with the compliance with all pertinent government, CARF, agency and COVID-19 regulations and operating standards.
Provides life skills training such as meal preparation, housekeeping, personal care skills, and personal finance and implements personal service plans
Assists clients with activities of daily living such as feeding, lifts, transfers, hygiene, grooming, and toileting
Participates in various client-focused activities in accordance with care plans.
Recognizes, analyzes, and deals with potential emergency situations such as clients’ aggressive behaviour to ensure no harm comes to the client and/or the public. Reports problems to the supervisor
Administers medication to clients in accordance with established policy.
Assists with case management by identifying potential problems and reporting any difficulties. Provides input to counsellors, professionals regarding the development of appropriate program plans to achieve residents’ objectives. Contributes to the evaluation of residents’ progress and prepares reports
Provides emotional support and feedback to residents and their families
Transports and assists residents to appointments, shopping, or leisure activities
Identifies social economic, recreational and educational services in the community that will meet clients’ needs. Maintains liaison with other agencies, professionals, government officials and the community
Performs other related duties as required

WORKING CONDITIONS

Functions independently while on shift and adhere to Residence Policy and Procedures
Works in a high stress environment, often dealing with clients in crisis situations
Demonstrates initiative, independence, and efficiency
Demonstrates a level of physical fitness to effectively carry out the required duties of the program and to meet the operational needs of the residence
Available for scheduled work week with time apportioned through days, evenings, overnights, and weekends as necessary to meet the program and client needs
Provides appropriate personal transportation with required business insurance coverage to enable the movement of the worker and resident as required by the goals of the program
Is a member of CUPE local 1936-11
Receives benefits and work within the conditions as outlined in the Collective Agreement and Personnel Policies

Experience And Skills

We seek candidates who meet the following qualifications and requirements:

Diploma in Social Services and one year of relevant experience, (we will consider a relevant combination of education and experience)
Functions independently while on shift and adhere to Residence Policy and Procedures
Demonstrates initiative, independence, and efficiency
Ability to teach skills and work effectively with others
Effective Communication Skills
Experience in a leadership role (an asset)
Demonstrated ability to respond efficiently in crisis and escalated situations
An awareness of the Ministry of Children and Family Development (the contractor) concerns, laws and policies related to the specific residence program

Requirements

Valid BC Class 5 driver’s license
Personal transportation in good repair, insured for business up to $1,000,000 for liability, and suitable for client transport
Successful completion of Children and Vulnerable Persons Criminal Records and Ministry of Child and Family Development Clearance check process
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Current Emergency First Aid Certificate

Compensation

As Connective is a unionized environment, the starting will be $30.95 per hour. Plus, benefits enrollment as per the Collective Agreement.

Important: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, observe their weekly hours limit if under a temporary or study visa, and provide proof of eligibility if selected for the role.
