Original job description

Work Environment

This position is based within the Integrated Operations Centre (IOC) in Grande Prairie and is primarily a control center-based role. The successful candidate will remotely monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize wells, facilities, and production infrastructure using SCADA and other surveillance systems while working closely with field operations and engineering teams.

This role is not field-based. Operational support and decision-making are performed from the IOC through continuous surveillance, monitoring, and coordination with field personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Perform continuous remote surveillance of wells, facilities, and production infrastructure from the Integrated Operations Centre (IOC) using SCADA and other monitoring systems.
  • Monitor production performance, equipment status, operating parameters, trends, and alarms to identify abnormal conditions, emerging issues, production losses, and optimization opportunities.
  • Remotely adjust operating set points and control parameters within established operating limits and procedures.
  • Use exception-based surveillance to prioritize wells and facilities requiring investigation or intervention.
  • Identify unexpected production losses, downtime, declining performance, and abnormal operating conditions, and coordinate appropriate follow-up activities.
  • Work with operations and engineering teams to assess, identify, develop, and implement process optimization and operational improvement opportunities for existing infrastructure.
  • Foster a collaborative environment with field personnel and engineering to develop and implement solutions that address maintenance and operational issues.
  • Support artificial lift operation, maintenance, and optimization activities through enhanced monitoring, performance evaluation, and identification of well candidates and optimization opportunities.
  • Develop, monitor, and follow up on action items generated through IOC surveillance activities, engineering initiatives, and operational requirements.
  • Support effective shift handovers by clearly communicating outstanding issues, operational risks, production impacts, and required follow-up activities.
  • Ensure identified opportunities, investigations, and critical activities are properly documented and tracked.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to team members in areas of expertise while promoting knowledge sharing, operational excellence, and continuous improvement across the organization.
  • Support Conventional’s leak detection strategy through monitoring, surveillance, and coordination of required follow-up activities.

Qualifications

Required

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Minimum High School Diploma.
  • Minimum 5 years of oil and gas industry experience, including experience optimizing and operating artificial lift systems such as plunger lift and rod pump systems.
  • Strong understanding of SCADA systems and related IOC technologies, including Cygnet, XSPOC, and associated monitoring and communication platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor, troubleshoot, and evaluate SCADA systems, oilfield operations, and related applications such as XSPOC and WellView.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Strong data analysis, problem-solving, and root cause evaluation skills.
  • Self-starter with strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Professional and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven leadership, coaching, mentoring, and knowledge-sharing abilities.

Assets

  • Experience with Access, SAP, and Maximo.
  • Experience with plant and facility operations, monitoring, and surveillance.
