About Corporate Minds

Corporate Minds Financial Ltd. is a Vancouver-based back-office services firm supporting private and public companies, including companies preparing to go public, with bookkeeping, accounting, corporate secretarial, financial reporting and filing services. We work with companies listed on the CSE and TSX Venture Exchange, mostly in mining and resources, as well as technology and health, and a variety of other industries. We help clients reduce professional fees through efficient accounting, compliance and secretarial processes, keep their records organized for audits and due diligence, and meet their monthly, quarterly and annual filing requirements, so they have more time to grow their businesses.

The role

We are looking for a Senior Bookkeeper to oversee bookkeeping across a portfolio of public and private company clients, review and train our junior bookkeepers, and keep clients' GST and CRA accounts in good standing. You will handle multiple client files at once, work closely with our accounting, financial reporting and corporate services teams, and report to our Controller and Managing Principal.

What you'll do

Oversight and training

  • Oversee the bookkeeping process across client files, reviewing junior bookkeepers' reconciliations, coding and close work
  • Train the team and build close checklists and processes as we grow
  • Act as the day-to-day contact for clients' bookkeeping questions

Full-cycle bookkeeping

  • Manage the shared accounting team email inbox
  • Own full-cycle bookkeeping to trial balance for a portfolio of clients, through month-end close
  • Record accounts payable and receivable, and process payments by online banking, EFT and wire
  • Reconcile bank, credit card, investment, intercompany and USD accounts every month
  • Post month-end entries (accruals, prepaids, related-party balances) and process expense claims
  • Keep supporting documents filed so quarter-end and audit requests are quick to answer
  • Support financial statement preparation by delivering trial balances and supporting schedules to the financial reporting team for quarterly and annual statements, and answer auditor questions on transactions
  • Set up new clients: chart of accounts, bank feeds and payment workflows

GST and CRA

  • Prepare and file GST/HST returns (and B.C. PST where it applies), including input tax credits, registrations and elections
  • Maintain clients' CRA program accounts through Represent a Client: registrations, authorizations, address and director updates, and closing accounts on amalgamations or wind-ups
  • Monitor and respond to CRA correspondence, reviews and notices of assessment; track instalments, balances owing and refunds
  • Work with tax preparers on corporate returns as needed

What you bring

  • 4+ years of full-cycle bookkeeping, at least 2 in a multi-client setting (accounting firm or outsourced bookkeeping practice)
  • Experience reviewing, supervising or training other bookkeepers
  • Solid GST/HST knowledge and direct experience dealing with the CRA
  • Advanced QuickBooks Online and Xero
  • Strong Excel skills (lookups, pivot tables, reconciliations)
  • An accounting diploma or degree, or progress toward a CPA or CPB designation, is an asset
  • Exposure to public or going-public companies, or to IFRS reporting cycles, is an asset
  • Organized and deadline-driven, with clear written communication

We are interested in highly motivated team players who have the ability to work independently in a fast-paced and dynamic team-oriented environment. Ideally, the candidate has the ability to recognize and utilize their individual strengths to influence and improve the effectiveness of the team.

The annual salary range for this position is: $75,000 - $95,000 based on experience.
