About Corvita Biomedical

Corvita Biomedical Inc. is a mission-driven medical device startup transforming neonatal healthcare globally. We are developing the ARK Incubator, a portable, AI-powered, dual-infant neonatal life support system designed to democratize access to intensive care for premature and critically ill newborns.

Our technology addresses the global crisis where millions of infants die annually due to lack of access to proper neonatal intensive care, particularly in underserved communities, rural areas, and humanitarian settings. As a member of our team, you'll have the unique opportunity to directly impact infant mortality rates and health outcomes on a global scale.

Role Summary

We are looking for a hands-on Electrical Engineer to develop ARK's electrical architecture and power systems from requirements and circuit design through verification and pilot manufacturing.

The role focuses on power distribution, protection, grounding, battery or backup power, wiring, analog interfaces, sensors, actuators, and electrical safety and EMC preparation. The Embedded Systems Engineer owns MCU-based control PCB implementation and firmware; the two roles work closely on interfaces, board partitioning, reviews, and integrated testing.

Key ResponsibilitiesElectrical architecture power and safety

Translate approved system requirements, operating scenarios, and identified risks into electrical requirements and acceptance criteria.
Develop and maintain the electrical architecture, power budget, grounding approach, isolation strategy, interface definitions, and operating-state assumptions.
Design or specify AC/DC and DC power distribution, protection, battery or backup-power functions, charging, monitoring, and safe source transitions where required.
Incorporate safeguards for overcurrent, overvoltage, overheating, reverse polarity, connection faults, and other identified hazards.

Circuit design and system integration

Design and document power-management, protection, analog, sensing, actuator-drive, interconnect, and mixed-signal circuits within the assigned electrical scope.
Own dedicated power or analog boards when assigned and provide reviewed circuit requirements and constraints to the Embedded Systems Engineer for MCU-based control boards.
Select components based on performance, safety, derating, lifecycle status, availability, lead time, cost, and supply risk.

Prototyping test and verification

Assemble, bring up, test, and troubleshoot prototype circuits, harnesses, power assemblies, and design-representative electronics.
Develop verification methods, fixtures, protocols, acceptance criteria, and reports for assigned electrical requirements.
Use oscilloscopes, power analyzers, electronic loads, logic analyzers, data-acquisition equipment, and other laboratory tools safely and methodically.
Conduct or support power-transition, fault-response, thermal, signal-integrity, grounding, leakage-current, and EMC pre-compliance testing.
Work with external specialists and laboratories to prepare for electrical-safety and EMC evaluation, investigate findings, and verify corrective actions.

Design controls documentation and manufacturing

Maintain traceability from electrical requirements through design outputs, risk controls, reviews, and verification evidence.
Contribute to hazard analysis, design FMEA, component-change assessments, nonconformity investigations, and controlled engineering changes.
Prepare controlled schematics, calculations, interface documents, BOMs, test records, and technical inputs for regulatory documentation.
Apply design-for-manufacturing, design-for-test, and design-for-assembly principles and define production-test requirements.
Work with suppliers, PCB assemblers, cable or harness vendors, and contract manufacturers on quotations, inspection, build documentation, and pilot production.

Collaboration and ownership boundaries

Collaborate with mechanical, embedded, biomedical, software, regulatory, clinical, and operations colleagues during design and integration.
Own the system-level electrical architecture, power, protection, grounding, wiring, and assigned power or analog designs.
The Embedded Systems Engineer owns assigned MCU-based control PCBs, firmware, board bring-up, and embedded production-test implementation. Both roles share reviews and interface decisions.
Communicate electrical risks, assumptions, trade-offs, test results, and decisions clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
Typically 1 to 3 years of experience developing electronics for physical products.
Experience contributing to at least one PCB-based product or substantial subsystem from design through bring-up and verification or manufacturing.
Practical knowledge of analog and digital circuits, power conversion, protection, sensing, or embedded-control interfaces.
Proficiency with a professional schematic and PCB environment such as Altium Designer, KiCad, OrCAD, or an equivalent tool.
Hands-on experience with soldering or rework, laboratory measurement, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
Ability to produce clear schematics, calculations, BOMs, test procedures, test reports, and technical documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in medical devices, laboratory equipment, aerospace, automotive, or another regulated or safety-critical environment.
Familiarity with medical-device design controls, ISO 14971 risk-management concepts, requirements traceability, and controlled change.
Experience with AC/DC conversion, DC/DC regulation, battery management, backup power, power-source transitions, or low-power architecture.
Familiarity with I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, USB, Ethernet, and embedded hardware interfaces.
Experience designing interfaces for sensors, heaters, motors, fans, valves, or other controlled loads.
Experience with production-test fixtures, PCB assembly partners, pilot builds, component qualification, and failure analysis.
Familiarity with SPICE or another circuit-simulation tool.
