About Corvita Biomedical

Corvita Biomedical Inc. is a mission-driven medical device startup transforming neonatal healthcare globally. We are developing the ARK Incubator, designed to democratize access to intensive care for premature and critically ill newborns. Our technology addresses the global crisis where millions of infants die annually due to lack of access to proper neonatal intensive care, particularly in underserved communities, rural areas, and humanitarian settings. As a member of our team, you'll have the unique opportunity to directly impact infant mortality rates and health outcomes on a global scale.

Role Summary

We are seeking a Biomedical Engineer to support system integration and multidisciplinary R&D for ARK. The role connects physiological and user needs with measurable engineering requirements, sensor behaviour, subsystem interfaces, test methods, and verification evidence.

This is not a general clinical, quality, or regulatory catch-all role. You will provide biomedical context and hands-on engineering support to the software and mechanical teams and own defined integration and test work packages. Production software, released mechanical design, PCB and firmware implementation, ML models, and regulatory submissions remain with their respective owners.

Key ResponsibilitiesSystems engineering and integration

Translate approved user and clinical needs into measurable system and subsystem requirements with defined acceptance criteria.
Maintain assigned requirements, interface definitions, assumptions, and traceability through design reviews and verification.
Develop interface matrices and integration plans covering sensors, embedded electronics, software, mechanical features, data outputs, alarms, and accessories.

Biomedical sensing and applied research

Support selection, characterization, and integration of physiological and environmental sensors relevant to ARK.
Develop bench methods to assess signal quality, accuracy, repeatability, latency, drift, calibration, noise, motion artefact, and failure behaviour.
Analyze biosignals and sensor data using Python, MATLAB, or equivalent tools, documenting algorithms, assumptions, limitations, and results.
Investigate sensor-to-patient and sensor-to-device interfaces, including contact pressure, placement, materials, cable effects, motion, temperature, and usability constraints.

Software engineering

Define biomedical data semantics, including units, ranges, sampling needs, timing, quality flags, error states, and expected sensor behaviour.
Create reference calculations, analysis scripts, test vectors, simulated inputs, and sensor or device emulators for development and verification.
Review software behaviour against biomedical requirements and help develop objective acceptance tests.
Provide domain context and curated test data to the ML and Data team, which retains ownership of model training, validation, deployment, and monitoring.

Mechanical engineering support

Convert biomedical and use-environment needs into mechanical design inputs concerning sensor placement, patient contact, caregiver access, cable management, cleaning, serviceability, and human interaction.
Review CAD, drawings, prototypes, and tolerance decisions for their effect on sensor performance, usability, integration, and testability.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering with biomedical experience, or a related discipline.
Applied understanding of physiology, sensors, measurement systems, signal acquisition, sampling, filtering, noise, calibration, and uncertainty.
Experience using Python, MATLAB, or an equivalent environment for data analysis and repeatable engineering tests.
Ability to turn ambiguous needs into measurable requirements, testable interfaces, and practical experiments.

Preferred Qualifications

Co-op, research, or industry experience with a medical device, patient-monitoring product, incubator, diagnostic system, wearable, or regulated electromechanical product.
Experience with biosignal acquisition, motion-artifact reduction, physiological monitoring, or sensor-to-skin interfaces.
Familiarity with medical-device design controls, requirements traceability, verification, risk management, and controlled documentation.
Familiarity with ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 60601, IEC 62304, or IEC 62366-1 concepts.
Experience with Git, automated test scripts, structured datasets, statistics, uncertainty analysis, or test-equipment automation.
Exposure to human factors, biological evaluation, cleaning or disinfection constraints, or neonatal-care environments.
Experience collaborating with clinicians, external laboratories, research partners, or contract manufacturers.
