Description:
Reporting to the Manager of the Medical Device Reprocessing Department, the Supervisor is responsible for supporting the leadership and operation of MDRD services. The position oversees daily workflow, staff supervision, quality and safety activities, and operational priorities across all reprocessing areas. The Supervisor contributes to operational planning, program evaluation, continuous improvement initiatives, and the delivery of patient-focused services while ensuring compliance with applicable standards, policies, and best practices. Key Responsibilities: Provide leadership, supervision, coaching and support to MDRD staff. Coordinate activities within decontamination, assembly, sterilization, storage, and distribution areas. Support staff orientation, education, competency assessment, and performance development. Support quality assurance activities, audits, risk mitigation initiatives, and corrective action planning. Assist with operational planning, workload management, and process improvement initiatives. Foster a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and customer service. Ensure adherence to departmental policies, procedures, and regulatory standards including CSA and Alberta Health Guidelines. Monitor operational performance indicators and identify opportunities for process improvement and service enhancement. Collaborate with interdisciplinary partners to ensure efficient and effective customer service. Foster a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, customer service, and continuous learning. Required Qualifications:
Grade 12 Diploma. Successful completion of a recognized Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Program. Current CSA Certified Medical Device Reprocessing Supervisor (CMDRS) Certification. Minimum five (5) years of recent clinical experience in a Medical Device Reprocessing Department. Thorough knowledge of Medical Device Reprocessing standards, CSA requirements, and Sterile Processing Management (SPM) principles. Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to prioritize competing demands and manage changing operational requirements.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Ability to work outside regular hours as operational needs require. Physical ability to stand and walk for extended periods and lift, carry, push, and pull heavy items safely. Ability to work in an environment with exposure to noise, chemicals, biohazardous materials, and varying environmental conditions.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous supervisory or leadership experience within a Medical Device Reprocessing Department. Demonstrated experience in performance management, staff coaching, mentorship, and team development. Experience with quality assurance programs, auditing processes, and accreditation readiness. Computer literacy and proficiency with electronic tracking and healthcare information systems. Experience with staff education, coaching, and competency assessment.
