Shape the data foundation behind Coveo’s next generation of innovation

What if your technical decisions could make hundreds of developers more effective? As a Staff Software Developer on Coveo’s Data Platform team, you’ll tackle complex, high-impact challenges and help shape the foundations that enable teams across Coveo to build reliable data-driven and ML-driven features at scale.

Under the direction of the Director of Engineering, Data & ML Platform, you will combine deep technical expertise with organization-wide influence, leading strategic initiatives, defining sound engineering approaches, and bringing teams together around solutions built for the long term.

As our Staff Software Developer, Data Platform, you will:

Drive large-scale, strategic data-oriented initiatives with a high degree of autonomy, from identifying opportunities and defining technical approaches through delivery across multiple teams and towards measurable outcomes.
Partner with developers and leaders in various areas across Coveo (technical, product, legal, security) to align data governance and technical decisions with broader product and organizational objectives.
Develop a wide and often deep understanding of third-party offerings in the space and how they can be leveraged at Coveo.
Solve complex and ambiguous engineering challenges, making thoughtful technical trade-offs and reducing complexity for the teams building on the platform.
Act as a technical multiplier by mentoring developers, sharing expertise and raising engineering standards, practices and quality across teams.
Identify opportunities for meaningful innovation and long-term improvements in developer productivity, platform reliability, performance and maintainability.
Shape the evolution of our data platform architecture, establishing patterns and technical direction that enable secure, reliable and scalable data capabilities across Coveo.

Here is what will qualify you for the role:

Extensive software development expertise and a track record of designing, building and evolving complex, distributed, and data-intensive systems.
Excellence at distilling complex information into precise concepts and relationships and turning them into explicit data schemas or APIs using a strong platform-as-a-product mindset.
Strong architectural and technical judgment, with the ability to navigate ambiguity, evaluate trade-offs and independently drive high-impact initiatives.
Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction beyond your immediate team and create alignment among stakeholders with different perspectives and priorities.
Strong interpersonal and adaptable communication skills, with the ability to make complex technical concepts accessible to diverse audiences, foster collaboration, and help engineering teams succeed.

What will make you stand out:

Deep experience with modern data platforms, especially in the context of ML pipelines, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure or large-scale data processing.
Experience overcoming data governance challenges.
Experience building platforms, tools, or abstractions used across engineering teams, with a proven impact on engineering practices, system reliability, scalability, and developer experience.
Strong technical communication skills, including experience delivering high-quality technical presentations.
Curiosity for emerging technologies and the ability to translate innovative ideas into practical solutions that deliver measurable, long-term value.
