Position: Privacy Program Specialist

Reports To: Privacy Officer

Contract Type: Indefinite, Full Time

The Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia (CPABC) is seeking a detail oriented, collaborative and results-driven individual for the position of Privacy Program Specialist. Job Summary

Reporting to the Privacy Officer, the Privacy Program Specialist is responsible for supporting the Privacy Office in compliance and risk management related to FOIPPA and CASL. The role focuses largely on supporting CPABC’s privacy compliance, including the collection, use, disclosure, retention, and destruction of personal information.

Key Responsibilities

Support the day-to-day operations of the Privacy Office, including inbox management, responding to student and member confirmation requests and other administrative duties;
Assist with containing and investigating suspected or real privacy incidents;
Support privacy training and awareness efforts;
Assist in conducting low to moderately complex privacy impact assessments;
Support the maintenance of CPABC’s records management system for the privacy team
Assist in maintaining the Personal Information Directory;
Assist in maintaining and updating operational documentation, including privacy policies, standards, and procedures, and knowledge bases;
Monitor and assess the impact of changes in privacy and anti-spam legislation in BC, Canada and abroad;
Research emerging privacy and security trends, industry best practices, and standards;
Assist with ongoing and collaborative reviews to ensure that the collection, use, disclosure, retention, and destruction of personal information is in compliance with FOIPPA;
Build partnerships with CPABC staff to provide support and guidance on best practices on privacy and CASL matters;
Contribute to the recommendation of appropriate controls and assisting with mitigation strategies.
Assist with special projects;
Provide input into and implement continuous process improvements initiatives;

And other duties and responsibilities may be assigned from time to time.

Key Requirements

Knowledge and Experience

Exposure to or knowledge of privacy, compliance, or regulatory requirements;

Demonstrated Skills And Abilities

Exceptional interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively, build credibility and strong relationships with a broad range of stakeholders at all levels in the organization;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Strong decision making and judgment skills;
Highly professional, diplomatic and tactful;
High degree of integrity and professionalism when handling confidential files and information;
Demonstrated ability to build trusted and collaborative working relationships with business and cross functional teams;
Process oriented with excellent attention to detail;
Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills with the ability to work independently;
Highly proficient with Microsoft Office products, including SharePoint;
Strong understanding of technology tools and cyber-security;

Preferred Knowledge, Experience, Skills And Abilities

One (1) year of experience in a Privacy or Compliance role, or equivalent experience, would be an asset;
Post-Secondary qualification in a related discipline would be a strong asset;
Privacy certification (e.g. CIPP/C) and/or experience relating to FOIPPA/Privacy legislation policies and directives would be an asset;

The starting annual salary for this position is between $56,000 – 66,500 per annum, based on candidates’ qualifications, experience, and internal parity. Exceptions may be considered with further review.

Responsibilities

Support the Privacy Office’s daily operations and compliance with FOIPPA and CASL, including privacy incident response, impact assessments, records management, training, and maintaining privacy documentation. Monitor legislative and industry developments, advise staff on privacy practices, and contribute to risk mitigation and process improvements.

Requirements

Candidates should have knowledge of privacy, compliance, or regulatory requirements, strong communication and judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively and independently. One year of relevant experience, a related post-secondary qualification, and privacy certification or experience with FOIPPA are assets.
