Original job description

Purpose. Performance. People.

Joining CPP Investments means joining one of the world’s most admired and respected institutional investors to drive a single mandate: to deliver strong, sustainable returns for generations of Canadians.

With a long-term horizon and global reach, we deploy capital at scale across public and private markets. Our size, stability, and disciplined investment philosophy allow us to pursue complex opportunities and build enduring partnerships worldwide.

For our people, this means meaningful work with tangible impact, real opportunity, and collaboration with exceptional colleagues who value partnership and performance. Here, you’ll contribute to outcomes that matter alongside team members committed to excellence and shared success.

The Role

Our Discover Investing Program focuses on hiring women who are undergraduate students looking to learn more about investing and fundamental analysis. It offers the opportunity to build skills, gain exposure to global markets, and work alongside some of the industry’s most accomplished investors. As an Intern, you will join our Active Equities Department from May to August 2027, contributing to meaningful, high-impact projects while developing your technical and analytical capabilities.

Your summer begins with Intern Orientation, where you’ll connect with peers, explore our culture, and gain insight into our strategies through company-wide departmental overviews. You’ll also have the chance to engage with senior leadership, advance your knowledge through skills-based training, and apply what you learn in stimulating on-the-job assignments.

In addition to your core work, you will take part in signature summer programming such as our Intern Case Competition and Speaker Series. We encourage you to bring your full self to work, take advantage of every learning opportunity, and build relationships that will support your career growth.

This internship is also a potential pathway to the Early Investor Program, offering high-performing interns the opportunity to return and launch their careers with us for the following summer term.

The Team

The Active Equities department offers interns a unique opportunity to gain on-the-job experience in public equity investing and contribute directly to our portfolio performance. As an intern, you’ll work alongside experienced investors on high-impact projects, taking on meaningful responsibilities and receiving dedicated mentorship throughout your placement.

You will be placed within the Security Selection team, which applies rigorous fundamental research to identify high-conviction investment opportunities across global markets. The approach emphasizes deep company analysis, thoughtful valuation, and a long-term perspective on value creation. You’ll collaborate with colleagues to conduct research, build investment theses, and help translate insights into actionable investment strategies.

This internship provides an intellectually engaging and practical introduction to equity investing, developing the analytical and strategic skills essential for a career in active asset management.

Accountabilities

Contribute to research on industries, companies, and securities to evaluate fundamentals, market positioning, and competitive dynamics.
Support valuation analysis to assess potential risks, returns, and key value drivers.
Contribute to due diligence and asset management efforts by gathering and synthesizing data on financial performance, market trends, and strategic developments.
Assist in the development and maintenance of financial models to evaluate investment opportunities and track portfolio positions.
Provide analytical support in preparing investment reviews, market updates, and internal presentations.
Apply quantitative and qualitative techniques to enhance investment insights.
Track macroeconomic and sector-level trends, preparing summaries that inform investment perspectives.
Support the organization and maintenance of internal research tools, databases, and proprietary resources.

Eligible Candidates

Women enrolled in an undergraduate program who are interested in learning more about fundamental analysis and will be returning to school in Fall 2027 with two years of undergraduate study remaining are eligible to apply.

We look for candidates with a strong track record of academic success while balancing extracurricular activities, strong interest in learning financial modeling, valuation and analytics, as well as good communication, interpersonal and relationship building skills. The most successful candidates often combine energy, enthusiasm, and intellectual curiosity, with demonstrated interest in investing.

You are motivated to contribute to something larger than yourself, approach complex challenges with rigor, and hold yourself to high standards in a collaborative, performance-driven environment.

We provide colleagues with cutting-edge AI tools, dedicated learning time, and practical support to help them deliver with greater impact.

Inclusion & Accessibility

CPP Investments is committed to equitable access to employment and building a workforce that reflects diverse talent and perspectives. If you require accommodation at any stage of the recruitment process, please let us know and we will work with you to meet your needs.

Attention: Protect Yourself from Fraud

CPP Investments is committed to a secure and transparent recruitment process. We will never ask candidates for payment or financial information at any stage of hiring. All legitimate opportunities are posted on our careers page, and communications will come from our applicant tracking system, Workday.

CPP Investments may use AI tools to help screen and assess applicants by analyzing resumes and applications for relevant skills and experience. These tools support, but do not replace, human decision-making.
