About the Role

Reporting to the Controller, Corporate Finance & Accounting, the Corporate Accountant is responsible for full-cycle accounting and financial reporting for assigned corporate, investment, real estate brokerage, and real estate entities. The role supports accurate reporting, regulatory compliance, effective internal controls, and continuous improvement across Corporate Finance. This is a temporary 15-month contract position with the possibility of extension based on business needs.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting and Consolidation: Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, note disclosures, and consolidated financial statements for assigned entities. Maintain supporting working papers, account mappings, and consolidation schedules; review financial information received from internal and external property teams; and ensure reporting complies with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal accounting policies.
General Ledger and Year-End Accounting: Maintain the integrity of the general ledger for assigned entities by recording, reviewing, and reconciling transactions and accounts. Complete month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries, accruals, intercompany reconciliations, consolidation and wind-up entries, lead sheets, continuity schedules, and other supporting working papers. Investigate discrepancies, coordinate required corrections with other accounting teams, and ensure assigned deliverables are completed accurately and on schedule.
Internal Controls and Compliance: Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, internal controls, and applicable real estate brokerage and trust-account requirements. Maintain books and records for assigned brokerage operations, prepare monthly trust reconciliations and regulatory support where applicable, identify control gaps, recommend improvements, and ensure financial processes include appropriate reconciliation, review, approval, validation, and supporting-document retention.
Audit and Review Support: Coordinate assigned audit, review, and regulatory reporting requirements by preparing lead sheets, reconciliations, financial statements, transaction support, and responses to auditor inquiries. Work with Corporate Finance, internal accounting teams, external property managers, auditors, and other stakeholders to resolve questions, obtain corrections, track outstanding items, and support the timely completion of engagements and filings.
Expense Management: Review property-related invoices, utilities, maintenance, and repair expenses for appropriate coding, allocation, approval, and supporting documentation. Coordinate corrections with the appropriate accounting or property-management team before processing.
Financial Analysis: Analyze financial statements, account activity, reconciliations, and budget-to-actual results to identify trends, variances, timing differences, unusual transactions, and potential risks. Explain findings clearly, recommend adjusting entries or process corrections where required, and provide useful information to Corporate Finance and other stakeholders to support reporting and business decisions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with corporate, property, project, tax, legal, treasury, accounts payable, systems, and external property-management teams to gather financial information, resolve accounting issues, coordinate corrections, and meet reporting deadlines. Provide clear explanations of accounting requirements, maintain effective working relationships, and support knowledge sharing and coverage across the Corporate Finance team.
Process Improvement and Systems: Review and improve accounting processes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, consistency, and internal control. Support the design, testing, implementation, and maintenance of Yardi reports, account trees, consolidations, data-upload processes, and other accounting workflows. Prepare and maintain standard operating procedures and training materials, validate results after system or process changes, and identify opportunities to automate or streamline recurring work.

Skills and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
CPA designation, or active progression through the CPA program with relevant practical experience, is preferred.
Experience in corporate accounting or a similar role, including full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, and financial analysis for multiple entities.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and regulations (GAAP).
Strong proficiency in Excel and enterprise accounting systems such as Yardi, including report development, account mappings, data uploads, workflow testing, and supporting-document management.
Ability to investigate complex account activity, identify the cause of variances or unusual transactions, and communicate clear conclusions and recommended actions.
Detail-oriented mindset with a high degree of accuracy and thoroughness in work.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate dependencies across teams, provide proactive status updates, identify risks or delays, and follow accounting issues through to resolution.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate and build relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and seek input or escalate issues when appropriate.

Working Conditions:

Pay Range: $60,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
Full-time Contract Position: 40 hours per week
