About the Role

As a Structural Mechanical Engineer, you will contribute to the design, analysis, validation, and optimization of structural and mechanical components for passenger and freight rail vehicles.

This role supports projects across the full lifecycle, including concept development, structural validation, manufacturing support, troubleshooting, and refurbishment.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop structural and mechanical components for rolling stock.
Produce engineering calculations, models, and technical documentation.
Perform structural assessments using hand calculations and FEA methods.
Validate designs against applicable standards and regulatory requirements.
Support design reviews, inspections, testing, and validation activities.
Participate in troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and engineering standards.
Prepare technical reports, calculations, drawings, and certification deliverables.
Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and knowledge sharing.

What We're Looking For

Education

Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
OIQ membership or eligibility is considered an asset.

Experience & Technical Competencies

3+ years of relevant experience in general stress analysis, structural engineering, steel structures, or a related discipline.
Ability to perform load calculations, determine load paths, evaluate reaction forces, and support structural design decisions.
Strong aptitude for engineering mathematics, analytical problem-solving, and structural calculations.
Experience in rolling stock, rail transportation, heavy vehicles, structural design, or related engineering environments is considered an asset.
Experience with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks).
Familiarity with structural analysis tools (e.g., HyperMesh, SimSolid) is considered an asset.
Strong understanding of weldments, fatigue design, bolted joints, and structural steel design principles.
Ability to quickly understand and apply specialized engineering concepts related to rail vehicle structures and systems.
Excellent technical communication skills, including technical reports and engineering documentation.
Manufacturing or fabrication experience is considered an asset.
Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset.

Réaliser des calculs d'ingénierie, des modèles et de la documentation technique.
Effectuer des analyses structurales à l'aide de calculs manuels et d'outils numériques (FEA).
Valider les conceptions selon les normes et exigences réglementaires applicables.
Participer aux revues de conception, inspections, essais et activités de validation.
Contribuer aux activités de résolution de problèmes et d'analyse des causes racines.
Assurer le respect des normes de sécurité, de qualité et d'ingénierie.
Préparer des rapports techniques, calculs, dessins et livrables de certification.
Collaborer avec des équipes multidisciplinaires, fournisseurs et parties prenantes.
Participer à l'amélioration continue et au partage des connaissances.

Profil recherché

Formation

Diplôme d'études collégiales ou universitaires en génie mécanique, génie civil ou dans une discipline connexe.
Membre de l'OIQ ou admissible à l'obtention du permis (atout).

Expérience et compétences techniques

3 ans minimum d'expérience pertinente en analyse de contraintes, en ingénierie structurale, en conception de structures d'acier ou dans un domaine connexe.
Capacité à réaliser des calculs de charges, à déterminer les chemins de charge (load paths), à évaluer les forces de réaction et à contribuer aux décisions de conception structurale.
Solides aptitudes en mathématiques appliquées à l'ingénierie, en résolution analytique de problèmes et en calculs structuraux.
Une expérience dans le domaine du matériel roulant, du transport ferroviaire, des véhicules lourds, de la conception structurale ou dans un environnement d'ingénierie connexe constitue un atout.
Expérience avec des logiciels de conception assistée par ordinateur (CAO) 3D, tels que SolidWorks.
La connaissance d'outils d'analyse structurale (p. ex. HyperMesh, SimSolid) constitue un atout.
Bonne compréhension des assemblages soudés, de la conception en fatigue, des assemblages boulonnés et des principes de conception des structures d'acier.
Capacité à comprendre rapidement et à appliquer des concepts d'ingénierie spécialisés liés aux structures et systèmes de véhicules ferroviaires.
Excellentes compétences en communication technique, notamment pour la rédaction de rapports et de documentation d'ingénierie.
Une expérience en milieu manufacturier ou en fabrication constitue un atout.
