About the Role

As a System Mechanical Engineer, you will support the definition, integration, validation, and lifecycle support of mechanical and onboard systems for passenger and freight rolling stock projects.

Working closely with senior engineers and multidisciplinary teams, you will contribute to system integration activities, technical coordination, validation, testing, and engineering documentation while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Systems Definition & Integration

Support the development of system requirements, interfaces, and performance criteria for onboard systems such as HVAC, braking, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical interfaces.
Coordinate interfaces between mechanical, electrical, structural, and software engineering teams.
Prepare and maintain system documentation, including Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and system descriptions.

Technical Analysis & Risk Management

Support functional performance assessments and system-level risk analyses, including FMEA and hazard analyses.
Assist with validating designs against applicable standards and regulations (APTA, AAR, EN, UIC, Transport Canada).
Review supplier and subcontractor technical documentation.

Verification, Validation & Testing

Support test planning, verification, and validation activities.
Participate in testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and in-service support activities.
Assist in root-cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.

Compliance & Collaboration

Ensure engineering deliverables comply with applicable standards and quality requirements.
Prepare technical reports, calculations, and certification-related documentation.
Collaborate with project managers, designers, production teams, suppliers, and clients.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and engineering best practices.

What We're Looking For

Education

Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) or eligible for registration.

Experience & Technical Competencies

3-7 years of experience in mechanical engineering, system integration, or transportation-related projects.
Experience with rolling stock systems or complex mechanical assemblies is considered an asset.
Familiarity with system integration and multidisciplinary engineering coordination.
Familiarity with railway standards and regulatory environments (APTA, AAR, EN, UIC, Transport Canada) is an asset.
Experience with rail braking systems (pneumatic or electro-pneumatic architectures and components) is considered an asset.
Experience with rail fuel systems and onboard power generation systems is an asset.
Proficiency with CAD tools and engineering documentation practices.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and technical problem-solving skills.
Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset.

Votre rôle

Responsabilités principales

Définition et intégration des systèmes

Contribuer au développement des exigences de système, interfaces et critères de performance pour des sous-systèmes tels que HVAC, freinage, pneumatique, systèmes de carburant et interfaces mécaniques.
Coordonner les interfaces entre les équipes mécaniques, électriques, structurales et logicielles.
Préparer et maintenir la documentation système, incluant les documents de contrôle des interfaces (ICD).

Analyse technique et gestion des risques

Participer aux analyses fonctionnelles et aux évaluations de risques (FMEA, analyses de dangers).
Soutenir la validation des conceptions selon les normes et réglementations applicables (APTA, AAR, EN, UIC, Transport Canada).
Réviser la documentation technique des fournisseurs et sous-traitants.

Vérification, validation et essais

Participer aux activités de vérification, validation et préparation des plans d'essais.
Soutenir les essais, la mise en service, le dépannage et le support en exploitation.
Participer aux analyses de causes racines et aux actions correctives.

Conformité et collaboration

Assurer la conformité des livrables aux normes applicables et aux exigences de qualité.
Préparer les rapports techniques, calculs et documents de certification.
Collaborer avec les gestionnaires de projet, concepteurs, fournisseurs et équipes de production.
Contribuer à l'amélioration continue des pratiques et outils d'ingénierie.

Profil recherché

Formation

Diplôme collégial ou universitaire en génie mécanique ou dans un domaine connexe.
Membre de l'Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) ou admissible à l'inscription.

Expérience et compétences techniques

3 à 7 années d'expérience en génie mécanique, intégration de systèmes ou projets liés au transport.
Une expérience avec le matériel roulant ou des assemblages mécaniques complexes constitue un atout.
Connaissance de l'intégration de systèmes et de la coordination multidisciplinaire.
Familiarité avec les normes ferroviaires (APTA, AAR, EN, UIC, Transport Canada) constitue un atout.
Une expérience avec les systèmes de freinage ferroviaire (pneumatiques ou électropneumatiques) constitue un atout.
Une expérience avec les systèmes de carburant ferroviaire et de génération d'énergie embarquée constitue un atout.
