Job details

Job type: Full-time
Posting language: English

Original job description

Full-time, permanent. Hybrid in Hamilton, with three days in the office (Tuesday to Thursday) and two days at home.

We are looking for an SEO specialist who is equal parts curious thinker, technical problem-solver, marketer, analyst, and trusted client advisor.

Most of our clients are professional-services organizations, particularly law firms and other regulated businesses. They are sophisticated, highly credible professionals, and their marketing needs to reflect that. We are not interested in shortcuts, questionable backlinking tactics, mass-produced content, or generating traffic simply for its own sake.

We want someone who likes digging into a client's business, understanding what they do, who they serve, where they have an opportunity to grow, and how search, AI, content, and their website can help them get there. You should be interested in the nuances of a client's business and comfortable developing strategies for niche practices and highly specific audiences.

You will manage SEO retainers and work directly with clients and our technology, strategy, and content teams to continuously improve performance. If your first instinct is to ask good questions before recommending a tactic, we should talk.

What You'll Do

Set strategy and collaborate. Work with our Head of Technology and Senior Manager, Brand and Marketing Strategy, to develop SEO, GEO, and content strategies aligned with clients' business goals. Build clear six- and twelve-month plans that identify priorities, recommendations, responsibilities, and measurable outcomes.
Optimize SEO and websites. Conduct comprehensive SEO and website audits and translate findings into prioritized, actionable recommendations. Manage keyword and search-intent research, on-page and off-page SEO, local search, internal linking, content optimization, and high-quality backlink strategies. Work directly with the development team to identify and resolve crawl errors, indexing issues, redirects, sitemaps, site architecture, site speed, structured data, and other technical SEO opportunities.
Analyze, report, and improve. Use Google Analytics/GA4, Search Console, Tag Manager, Looker Studio, and other tools to monitor website and search performance, analyze full-funnel user journeys, diagnose changes in traffic and visibility, and turn data into clear recommendations. Prepare monthly reporting, year-in-review analysis, and strategic plans that explain what happened, why it matters, where the opportunities are, and what should happen next. Establish meaningful KPIs and stay current on changes in SEO, GEO, AI search, and analytics.
Support and advise clients. Manage SEO retainers with a high level of ownership, responsiveness, and attention to detail. Present findings and recommendations directly to clients, identify new opportunities, and provide practical strategic guidance. Maintain clear documentation of accounts, dashboards, processes, tests, and recommendations so clients and internal teams understand the current state and next steps.
Work alongside paid media. Where paid search or paid social supports a client's search strategy, work with the marketing team to align keywords, landing pages, and conversion tracking so organic and paid efforts reinforce each other.

What You Bring

Essential

Education and experience. A post-secondary degree, diploma, or certificate in Digital Marketing, Business, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience, plus at least three years of hands-on experience in an SEO role with responsibility for client accounts or programs, in an agency or in-house.
Strong SEO fundamentals. Solid knowledge of technical SEO, keyword and search-intent research, on-page and off-page strategy, content optimization, internal linking, backlinking, local SEO, competitor analysis, and performance measurement, plus an active interest in how AI search is changing the way clients get found.
Strong analytics. Working knowledge of Google Analytics/GA4, Google Search Console, Google Tag Manager, and Excel, plus experience developing useful dashboards and reports in Looker Studio or a comparable platform. You can investigate performance changes, identify likely causes, and recommend next steps.
Business and client focus. You want to understand how your clients make money, which services and audiences matter most, how their markets differ, and what constitutes a meaningful lead. You can balance search opportunity with brand, reputation, quality, and the realities of marketing professional and regulated services.
Communication and organization. You translate technical information and data into clear, actionable recommendations for clients and colleagues. You manage multiple projects independently, document your work, meet deadlines, adapt to changing priorities, and bring a thoughtful, detail-oriented, team-first mindset.

Considered a strong asset

Hands-on experience setting up and managing Google Ads campaigns, and an understanding of how paid and organic search work together. Paid media is not the core focus of this role; however, it is a strongly desired asset.
Experience working in professional services, particularly law firms, accounting firms, engineering firms, consulting firms, or other regulated or expertise-driven businesses.
Relevant certifications in Google Analytics, Google Ads, Looker Studio, or related platforms.
Experience with content management systems, particularly Sitefinity and WordPress, and collaborating with developers on website redesigns, migrations, redirects, and technical SEO.
Experience with AI search/GEO and using AI and LLM tools to improve research, analysis, reporting, and SEO workflows while maintaining appropriate human review and judgment.

Tools You'll Use

Analytics and reporting: Google Analytics/GA4, Google Search Console, Google Tag Manager, Looker Studio, Excel.
SEO and competitive intelligence: Semrush, Screaming Frog, SpyFu, BrightLocal, Bing Webmaster Tools.
AI and GEO: Claude and other emerging AI search and research tools.
Advertising (as needed): Google Ads, LinkedIn.
CMS: Sitefinity and WordPress.

We do not expect every candidate to have worked extensively with every platform. We care more about strong fundamentals, curiosity, sound judgment, and the ability to learn new tools quickly.

About Cubicle Fugitive

Cubicle Fugitive is a full-service brand, marketing, and web agency. We deliver high-calibre work for organizations large and small, with a focus on legal and professional services, education, construction, and healthcare. We help people who do excellent work get noticed by those who need them and look after their brand at every touchpoint.

We're a close-knit, collaborative team that values good ideas, independent thinking, and exceptional work. Projects are varied, priorities sometimes change, and everyone pitches in. You'll be supported by experienced colleagues while having the freedom to take ownership, contribute ideas, and grow your skills. The day-to-day is friendly and flexible, with competitive pay, a healthcare spending account and EAP, team events you will probably enjoy (escape rooms feature heavily), and a group chat with more memes and board game talk than anyone asked for.

This is a full-time, permanent position with a hybrid schedule based in Hamilton, Ontario.

How to Apply

Please send your resume and a short introduction that explains your relevant experience, what interests you about this position, and the type of SEO work you enjoy most.

Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada and be able to commute to our Hamilton office. Occasional travel to client offices is part of the role. We are an equal-opportunity employer and welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Accommodations are available throughout the recruitment process upon request.

If we move forward, we will ask you to walk us through one piece of work you are proud of, such as an SEO audit, a digital strategy, a year-end report, or a technical recommendation, including the challenge, your recommendation, and the result. Please do not share confidential client information.
