About CuraDrone

CuraDrone is a Quebec biotechnology and medical device company developing an innovative approach to treating solid tumors, based on magnetically guided bacteria conjugated to proven therapeutic agents. At the intersection of biology, chemistry, engineering and clinical medicine, the company is designing a new targeted therapeutic modality that delivers treatment directly into the core of a tumor to increase its therapeutic index.

Our platform rests on three pillars: magnetotactic bacteria that serve as a biological vector, bioconjugation expertise for attaching therapeutic agents to the surface of the bacteria, and a magnetic guidance medical device that controls the path of the bacteria within tumors. CuraDrone is actively advancing toward its first Phase I clinical study, from process development through preparation of the regulatory submission.

Position Summary

CuraDrone is looking for a mechanical engineer to support its medical device design activities. Reporting to the Medical Devices Lead, the incumbent carries out the mechanical and structural design and thermal management of the devices, along with all related technical work (test benches, prototyping, assembly), in a regulated environment (ISO 13485, ISO 14971). The incumbent produces and maintains the required models and drawings and, as needed, directs the technicians assigned to the work so as to be relieved of hands-on execution tasks.

The role is highly collaborative: the incumbent works closely with internal multidisciplinary teams and external partners, and shares project coordination with the Medical Devices Lead. The incumbent contributes to compliance, verification and validation, and risk management activities applicable to medical devices.

Responsibilities

Design, evolve and document the mechanical, structural and thermal management subsystems of the devices, according to project needs;
Produce CAD models, manufacturing drawings, tolerancing and bills of materials, with support from the technicians assigned to drafting;
Design, build and operate own mechanical test benches; contribute to assembly and to verification and validation (V&V) activities;
Select materials based on the functional, regulatory and manufacturing constraints of the devices;
Address mechanical hazards (pinching, crushing, shearing, stability, emergency stop) in accordance with the standards applicable to medical devices (CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60601-1);
Integrate design controls: inputs and outputs, traceability, design failure mode and effects analysis (DFMEA), and contributions to the design history file (DHF) and the risk management file (ISO 14971);
Contribute to building and maintaining the technical design documentation;
Support, as needed, technical liaison with suppliers and subcontractors as well as mechanical-electronic integration, this liaison being led by the Medical Devices Lead;
Manage prototyping, fabrication (machining) and design for manufacturing optimization;
Share project coordination with the Medical Devices Lead: planning, progress tracking and milestones.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering;
Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ), holding the engineer title (ing.);
Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in mechanical design, ideally in medical devices or a regulated environment;
Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks); technical drawings and tolerancing;
Strong hands-on aptitude: building test benches, prototyping and assembly;
Knowledge of ISO 13485 and ISO 14971, an asset;
Familiarity with the mechanical requirements of CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60601-1 and IEC 60601-1, an asset;
Project coordination skills.

Other

Experience in a startup, facility start-up or rapid development environment is an asset;
Ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment involving scientific, technical, quality and operations teams;
Comfort with digital tools and an interest in using artificial intelligence tools in operational and technical activities is an asset;
Availability for the full duration of the contract and for the schedule agreed upon with the Company.

Language Requirements

French (required): the normal and everyday language of work; functional oral proficiency for team discussions and written proficiency for reading and writing internal technical documentation.
English (required): needed for reading standards, equipment technical documentation and specialized literature (mostly in English), as well as for communicating with suppliers and subcontractors outside Quebec.

Working Conditions

Status: full-time contract or fixed-term contract;
Start date: as soon as possible;
On-site work at the Ville Saint-Laurent (Quebec) facilities, including the shop and the laboratory; remote work is permitted provided it does not affect project progress;
Precision manual work in the shop and at the test bench; wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) depending on the activity;
Location accessible by major highways and public transit;
Valid work permit for Canada required.
