About The Opportunity
The School of Communication Sciences and Disorders, Faculty of Health, at Dalhousie University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-stream faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in speech-language pathology or a related field. We welcome applicants with expertise in any core or emerging area of the discipline, including but not limited to motor speech, language, voice and resonance, fluency, and cognitive-communication. Research and/or teaching expertise with pediatric populations is strongly preferred, as is eligibility for registration with the Nova Scotia College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists ( NSCASLP ). Expertise of the candidate must be supported by a strong scientific publication record and research plan. One to two years of postdoctoral experience is considered a strength. The incumbent will have demonstrated ability or potential for excellence in graduate teaching in areas that complement our teaching program, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills.
The successful candidate is expected to secure extramural research funding, including national Tri-Council funding, and lead an innovative and collaborative research program. The candidate will be required to teach, mentor, and supervise graduate students. The candidate is expected to become an active and engaged member of the School, Faculty, and University. Activities at local, national, and international levels are expected to promote continuous improvement in research, teaching, and learning at Dalhousie.
Applications must include a cover letter stating qualifications and experience; a Curriculum Vitae, including a list of publications and major projects; a statement of teaching experience and interests; and copies of teaching evaluations, if available. Applications must also include an original, innovative five-year research program plan with clear objectives that describes methodological approaches, including partnerships or collaboration, and addresses how proposed activities will be funded.
Graduates of the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders are highly competent professionals, who are sought-after locally, nationally, and internationally; our research is at the forefront of knowledge, advancement, and translation; and our outreach services, which include several in-house clinics that serve the community, are valued for their unique and innovative contributions to society. The School maintains strong collaborative links to other schools within the Faculty of Health, as well as with the Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry, and the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience, among others. The School is also affiliated with Hearing and Speech Nova Scotia, which provides publicly funded audiology services to all Nova Scotians as well as speech-language services to both adults and preschool and home-school children.
