We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Key Accounts Project Engineer to drive the success of our strategic client projects. In this role, you will serve as a vital link between our technical teams and key customer accounts, ensuring seamless project execution from inception to completion. Purpose:
The Key Accounts Project Engineer is responsible for leading and managing specialized fan system projects from project initiation through order award, design engineering, manufacturing and final shipment. This is a hands-on technical project management position requiring strong mechanical engineering knowledge and the ability to translate customer requirements into practical engineering and manufacturing solutions. The role requires the ability to understand and contribute to mechanical design and engineering while coordinating internal resources across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality and other departments.
The Key Accounts Project Engineer will serve as a key point of contact for customers throughout the project, providing technical guidance, communicating project status, resolving issues and ensuring that customer requirements are understood and incorporated into the final product.
Key Position Responsibilities and Duties - will include, but not be limited to:
Project Management & Customer Management
- Take end-to-end ownership of assigned customer projects, from project award/order through engineering, manufacturing and shipment.
- Work with customers to identify cost savings and support sales to develop additional opportunities within the clients systems
- Review customer orders, specifications, contracts and project scope to identify technical requirements, deliverables, timelines, risks, assumptions and potential issues.
- Act as the primary project contact for assigned customers and maintain clear, professional and timely communication throughout the project lifecycle.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, milestones and deliverables and proactively communicate changes or risks that may impact project completion.
- Coordinate activities across Engineering, Drafting, Manufacturing, Quality, Planning, Purchasing and other internal resources to ensure project requirements and deadlines are met.
- Establish project priorities and coordinate internal resources to ensure work progresses efficiently.
- Monitor project status and proactively identify technical, schedule, resource, quality or production issues.
- Resolve project issues through effective problem-solving and collaboration, escalating matters to management when required.
- Review changes to customer requirements and assess their impact on scope, schedule, cost, design and production.
- Coordinate and document customer approvals, design changes and project decisions.
- Ensure all project documentation and deliverables are completed accurately and released in accordance with established processes.
- Coordinate project handover and ensure Manufacturing has the information, drawings, specifications and materials required to successfully build the product.
- Follow projects through to completion and shipment, ensuring outstanding issues are resolved and customer expectations are met.
- Conduct project reviews and identify opportunities for process improvements and lessons learned.
Application Engineering & Design
- Apply mechanical engineering knowledge to the conceptual and detailed design of specialized fan systems and related components.
- Interpret customer specifications and translate requirements into practical engineering and manufacturing solutions.
- Modify standard products and develop custom solutions to meet customer requirements.
- Review designs for manufacturability, functionality, quality, safety and compliance with applicable engineering standards.
- Provide technical guidance and direction to engineering and detailing resources as required.
- Identify design risks and recommend appropriate technical solutions.
- Drive cost reduction efforts both from a design and manufacturability perspective
- Support the development and implementation of engineering standards, design practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
Manufacturing & Production Support
- Work closely with Manufacturing to ensure designs and project requirements can be effectively translated into a finished product.
- Review shop feedback and resolve technical or design issues arising during manufacturing.
- Investigate manufacturing challenges and recommend design or process modifications where appropriate.
- Drive cost reduction efforts wrt projects being managed
- Ensure changes arising during manufacturing are properly documented, approved and incorporated into the appropriate drawings and project documentation.
- Coordinate the requisition of foreign or specialized parts as required for project completion.
- Prepare test procedure and work with assembly to carry out the testing where required.
Document Control
- Ensure project documentation is complete, accurate, current and controlled throughout the project lifecycle.
- Maintain consistent engineering and drafting standards across projects.
- Work with project team members to ensure required standards and processes are followed.
- Identify opportunities to improve documentation, engineering processes and project execution.
Site Visits & Technical Support
- Conduct customer or project site visits when required to investigate operating issues, gather technical information or support project requirements.
- Investigate operating or performance issues following installation and work with internal and external resources to identify appropriate solutions.
- Provide technical support to customers and internal teams throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related discipline from an accredited educational institution.
- Professional engineering designation or eligibility for designation would be considered an asset.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering, design and/or manufacturing project management, preferably in a custom or engineered-to-order manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing projects from customer order/award through engineering, manufacturing and final delivery.
- Proven experience working directly with customers on technical requirements, project status, changes and issue resolution.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating cross-functional teams and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment with a strong understanding of design for manufacturability, machining, fabrication and production processes.
- Experience managing custom-engineered products, equipment or mechanical systems is strongly preferred.

- Strong understanding of mechanical design, engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing processes.

- Knowledge of machining, fabrication, and manufacturing practices.
- Experience with MRP/ERP systems and production environments.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and customer communication skills.
- Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines in a constantly changing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to anticipate problems, identify solutions and take proactive action.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in the creation, review and transfer of technical and project information.
- Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
