Sales Engineer – Aerospace

Company: DART Aerospace

Location: Montreal, Quebec – On-site

Travel: Up to 10%

Department: Commercial / Sales

Reports to: Business Unit Manager

Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

Turn Technical Expertise into Business Opportunities

DART Aerospace is a global leader in the design and manufacture of mission-critical equipment and certified solutions for the helicopter and aerospace industry.

We are looking for a Sales Engineer to bridge the gap between customer needs, commercial opportunities and engineering solutions.

In this role, you will act as the technical resource within the commercial team, working directly with customers to understand operational requirements, evaluate technical feasibility and help define the right solution before an opportunity is transferred to Engineering.

This is a strong fit for an engineer who enjoys customer interaction, problem-solving and the commercial side of aerospace.

What You’ll Do

Support Technical Sales & Pre-Sales

  • Act as the primary technical resource for the commercial team during the early stages of customer opportunities.
  • Engage directly with customers to understand technical, operational and integration requirements.
  • Translate customer needs into clear technical requirements and solution concepts.
  • Respond to technical questions and support the preparation of proposals, quotations and customer presentations.
  • Participate in customer meetings, technical reviews and product discussions.
  • Build technical credibility with customer engineering, operations and procurement teams.

Evaluate Opportunities

  • Assess initial technical feasibility of new opportunities.
  • Identify key technical assumptions, risks, constraints and information gaps.
  • Support early opportunity reviews, including Gate 0 / Gate 1, Go/No-Go and Bid/No-Bid decisions.
  • Work with internal technical teams to validate proposed solutions where required.
  • Help determine whether existing products can meet customer requirements or whether engineering development is required.

Define Requirements & Support Engineering Handoff

  • Gather and structure customer requirements before opportunities are transferred to Engineering.
  • Develop clear technical scopes, preliminary specifications and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate with Engineering to ensure technical requirements are understood and achievable.
  • Own the technical handoff of commercial opportunities into Engineering.
  • Reduce ambiguity, rework and delays by ensuring projects start with well-defined requirements.

Support Product & Business Development

  • Develop strong technical knowledge of DART Aerospace products and applications.
  • Support new product introductions and customer launch activities.
  • Provide product and technical training to Sales and other commercial teams.
  • Identify recurring customer requirements and potential product improvement opportunities.
  • Provide market and customer feedback to Engineering and Product teams.
  • Support business development initiatives for new applications, customers and market segments.

What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or another relevant technical discipline.
  • Approximately 3–7 years of engineering, technical sales, applications engineering or related experience.
  • Strong ability to understand mechanical products, systems and technical requirements.
  • Experience working directly with customers, suppliers or external technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to translate complex technical information into clear business and customer language.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable making preliminary assessments with incomplete information and identifying what must be validated.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Sales, Engineering, Operations, Quality and Supply Chain.
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office and technical documentation.

Preferred Experience

Experience in one or more of the following would be considered an asset:

  • Aerospace, aviation, rotorcraft or defense
  • Mechanical or aerospace product design
  • Customer-facing engineering or applications engineering
  • Aerospace mission equipment
  • Mechanical structures, systems or integration
  • Composite structures or lightweight aerospace structures
  • Technical proposal development
  • RFQs, RFPs and customer specifications
  • New product development or new product introduction
  • Certification-driven product development
  • OEM, MRO or aftermarket environments
  • SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software
  • ERP, CRM or PLM systems

What Makes Someone Successful in This Role

You are likely to succeed in this position if you:

  • Enjoy understanding how products work and how they solve customer problems.
  • Can move comfortably between technical discussions and commercial conversations.
  • Ask the right questions before committing Engineering resources.
  • Are able to simplify complex engineering information without losing technical accuracy.
  • Take ownership of opportunities and follow them through to a clear decision.
  • Are comfortable interacting with customers while also challenging assumptions internally.
  • Can work in a fast-moving environment where priorities and customer requirements evolve.

Compliance / Export Control

Due to the nature of the programs and technical information associated with this position, candidates must meet applicable Canadian and U.S. export control eligibility requirements. Eligibility will be verified as part of the recruitment process.

Why Join DART Aerospace?

You’ll work directly with customers and internal engineering teams on specialized aerospace equipment used in demanding, mission-critical operations around the world.

This role provides exposure to both the technical and commercial sides of the business and offers a strong development path for an engineer interested in growing toward broader commercial, product or business leadership responsibilities.

If you have a strong technical foundation, enjoy working with customers and want to influence which aerospace solutions move from opportunity to reality, we want to hear from you.
