About Dasmesh Punjabi School

DPS is an independent English-language K–12 school serving approximately 1,000 students in Abbotsford, BC. While Punjabi language and Sikh studies form part of our educational program, instruction is delivered in English. We welcome applicants from all faiths and backgrounds who are committed to supporting an inclusive, respectful, and student-centered learning environment.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a warm, capable, and organised general-education teacher to take on a Grade 7 homeroom on a temporary basis, covering a leave. This is a self-contained classroom role - you will be the anchor teacher for a Grade 7 cohort, teaching the core subjects and being the steady, trusted presence at the centre of their school day.

This is an excellent fit for a teacher seeking a defined block of continuous classroom experience - whether you are currently teaching on call and looking to step into a full classroom, early in your career and building experience, or simply well-suited to a focused, temporary assignment. Depending on circumstances, there may be potential for the role to extend.

What You'll Do

  • Teach the Grade 7 BC curriculum across the core subjects: English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
  • Serve as the Grade 7 homeroom teacher, creating a positive, well-managed classroom where students feel known, valued, and encouraged to learn.
  • Support students' academic, social, and emotional development as they navigate the transition through the intermediate years.
  • Deliver additional subjects and responsibilities as assigned within the Grade 7 timetable.
  • Use competency-based, proficiency-focused assessment aligned to BC standards, and communicate student progress clearly to students and families.
  • Partner with the teaching team and support staff to ensure a smooth experience for students during the transition.
  • Contribute to the wider life and values of the school community.

What We're Looking For Required

  • BC Teacher Regulation Branch certification, or eligibility to obtain it.
  • The ability to teach across the Grade 7 core curriculum with confidence as a generalist.
  • A genuine warmth for pre-adolescent learners and the skill to build a calm, well-managed, relationship-centred classroom.
  • Adaptability and reliability - the ability to step in and provide consistency and stability for students.
  • Commitment to the mission, values, and community of Dasmesh Punjabi School.

Strong assets

  • Experience teaching at the intermediate/middle level (Grades 5–8).
  • Skill in supporting English language learners and literacy across the content areas.
  • A collaborative, team-oriented approach to planning and classroom routines.

What We Offer

  • Inclusive: In keeping with the principles of Sikhism, we welcome talented individuals from all religious, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. Practicing Sikhism is not a requirement.
  • Supportive: Our educators enjoy a reduced workload, with dedicated time for preparation and grading.
  • Benefits: Competitive pay, paid vacation, medical benefits, RRSP, extracurricular club bonuses, and professional development opportunities.
  • How to Apply
  • Please submit a cover letter and résumé to with Position Title in the Subject Line
