Working Hours: 8 Hours per day / 40 Hours per week
Location: Calgary, AB, Canada (Hybrid)
Travel: Minimal (5% to 10% for stakeholder/landowner meetings on critical files)

Role Overview
The Growth Projects Land Representative is a project-focused land professional responsible for leading and coordinating landowner engagement, land acquisition, and land access activities for the life cycle of new and existing Growth Projects supporting the Canada Gas Regulatory, Land Projects, and Power, Energy and Storage portfolios. Scope includes gas and power facilities, pipelines, and associated infrastructure. The Growth Projects life cycle also covers the transition of projects into operations, completing required land acquisition for post-construction monitoring programs, and decommissioning/abandoning infrastructure no longer required.
Project management capability is the primary focus and top priority for this role. Operating as a land subject matter expert within project teams, this position manages the overall land scope from start to finish (working alongside a paired Land Analyst who handles documentation). The role is accountable for ensuring all land activities are executed in alignment with company procedures and all applicable regulatory, legislative, contractual, and financial requirements.
The position works closely with internal stakeholders (including Legal, Projects, Environment and Regulatory, Construction, and Indigenous Relations), as well as external stakeholders (landowners, industry representatives, third-party brokers/consultants, and regulatory bodies) to deliver land acquisition/access and public awareness programs, and to resolve escalated land-related issues.
Responsibilities
Project Land Leadership & End-to-End Execution
- Plan, coordinate, and execute landowner engagement and land acquisition/access activities end-to-end in alignment with project and business unit objectives.
- Act as the primary land point of contact within multi-disciplinary project teams.
- Identify land requirements, constraints, and risks associated with projects, acquisitions, and business development opportunities, and proactively mitigate or escalate issues as required.
- Lead project delivery by translating land requirements into executable workplans, aligning internal/external resources, and managing schedules, deliverables, and dependencies.
Cost, Vendor, and Consultant Management
- Prepare and manage land cost estimates, forecasts, purchase orders, and cost accountability processes.
- Provide direction, oversight, and performance management for third-party consultants, including land service providers, appraisers, and land brokers.
- Establish and enforce quality standards and protocols for external service providers.
Strategy, Risk, and Issue Resolution
- Develop land strategies, recommendations, and execution plans that consider schedule, cost, regulatory requirements, and precedent-setting implications.
- Lead or support the resolution of complex land issues, including claims, negotiations, arbitrations, and legal actions.
- Maintain clear, accurate, and professional communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Process Improvement and Collaboration
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of land processes, practices, and the integration of land into project execution models.
- Act as a knowledge resource and mentor within the broader collaborative, high-performing land and project community.
Qualifications and Core Competencies
- Strong project management capability alongside land negotiation experience - must be able to manage the project land scope end-to-end rather than solely negotiating individual files.
- Relevant land experience in the oil and gas sector (upstream or midstream pipeline and energy companies, land service providers, or land brokers qualify). Well-site experience is also applicable.
- Working knowledge or awareness of regulatory regimes including the Canada Energy Regulator (CER), Alberta Energy Regulator (AER), BC Energy Regulator (BCER), and the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC). Translatable regulatory experience from other provincial or industry regulators is acceptable.
- Demonstrated experience directing, managing, and evaluating third-party land service providers, brokers, and appraisers.
- Strong interpersonal, written, verbal, presentation, and facilitation skills with a customer-service mindset. Ability to work effectively in a social, highly collaborative, fast-paced team environment.
- Proven analytical skills, sound judgment, and experience leading complex land negotiations and issue resolutions.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); high adaptability to tech systems. Experience with MS Copilot and working experience in the Pandell land database are considered assets.
Education and Experience
- University degree in a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 6 years of land management experience within the energy sector (candidates with ~5 years and high-quality relevant experience will also be considered).
- Experience leading land scope on capital projects (owner/operator, land consulting, or land broker roles accepted; owner/operator preferred).
- Valid driver’s license required. Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without sponsorship.
