Working Hours: 8 Hours per day / 40 Hours per week
Location: Calgary, AB, Canada (Hybrid)

Summary
The Power BI and Power Platform Administrator owns the end-to-end administration, security, governance, and capacity management for Microsoft Power BI, while serving as the operational and governance lead for the broader Microsoft Power Platform environment (including Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse, AI Builder, and Copilot platform management).
This role directly closes a critical enterprise gap by formalizing and governing gateway connections, automating connection processes, managing capacity transitions (including migrating legacy capacities to Fabric capacities), and leading the organization’s established Center of Excellence (CoE) and citizen development community.
Responsibilities
1) Power BI Administration & Capacity Governance (Primary Responsibility ~60%)
- Gateway & Connection Governance:
- Own and govern Power BI gateway connections, data source access, and the underlying permissioning model.
- Evaluate, design, and implement self-service and automation opportunities to modernize current manual gateway connection workflows.
- Capacity Management & Modernization:
- Manage Power BI capacity allocation, performance monitoring, and tenant health.
- Lead the active platform migration from legacy Power BI capacities to modern Microsoft Fabric capacities.
- Tenant & Security Oversight:
- Govern workspaces, datasets, and sharing models, ensuring secure, compliant data access across the organization.
- Monitor dataset refresh reliability, workspace usage, and administrative risk classifications.
2) Power Platform, AI Builder & Copilot Administration (Secondary / Trainable Responsibility)
- Environment & Platform Administration:
- Administer Power Platform environments (Non-Prod/Prod), Power Automate, Power Apps, and AI Builder.
- Evaluate new Microsoft feature releases (e.g., environment routing, environment grouping) and incorporate them into the enterprise governance framework.
- Copilot & AI Credit Management:
- Manage platform-level Copilot enablement, environment configurations, and credit consumption tracking/forecasting.
- (Note: Responsible-use policy and Copilot data governance sit with a dedicated enterprise AI team.)
- ALM & Controls:
- Manage key administrative controls including DLP policies, environment strategy, and Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) practices.
3) Centre of Excellence (CoE), Citizen Development & Community Leadership (~40%)
- Community Engagement:
- Host and lead the monthly Microsoft Champions community sessions for an established network of ~300 citizen developers (ranging from full-time makers to side-of-desk users).
- Translate Microsoft product roadmap updates and member-submitted use cases into applied, environment-specific guidance and best practices.
- Leverage Enterprise Networks:
- Represent the organization within the Microsoft Champions Network, accessing early preview features and providing direct feedback to Microsoft’s product team.
- Autonomous Problem-Solving:
- Operate with high autonomy as the top technical authority on this stack - researching, resolving, and teaching solutions back to the community without requiring direct senior technical mentorship.
- Enablement & Guardrails:
- Promote a “guardrails, not gates” framework balancing business innovation with enterprise security.
- Develop reusable assets, templates, starter kits, and tiered solution classification models (personal, team, enterprise).
Mandatory Qualifications:
- 5+ Years of Dedicated Power BI Administration Experience: Must have direct, hands-on administration experience - specifically gateway management, connection governance/permissioning, and capacity management. (Experience consisting solely of dashboard or report building does not satisfy this requirement.)
- Proven track record in a large enterprise environment. Candidates must be able to detail the organization scale, approximate user counts, and their exact operational role managing the environment.
- Strong presentation and training ability, comfortable presenting complex technical concepts to mixed-skill audiences of ~300 people.
- Demonstrated ability to independently research, troubleshoot, and master platform capabilities without relying on immediate senior technical mentors.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior hands-on administration experience with Power Automate, Power Apps, or AI Builder (the hiring manager will train a strong Power BI candidate on this layer).
- Experience or strong aptitude with Microsoft Fabric or legacy-to-Fabric capacity migrations.
- Microsoft Power Platform or Power BI certifications (e.g., PL-300, PL-400, PL-600).
- Exposure, interest, or aptitude in AWS cloud environments (growth opportunity for lower-activity periods).
- Relevant University Degree (demonstrated hands-on experience outweighs formal education)
