Role Description This full-time, on-site role is based in Wheatland County, AB and combines responsibilities of a 3rd Class Power Engineer Delta V Panel Operator and Shift Lead. The individual will operate and monitor plant systems using Delta V control panels, respond to alarms, adjust process parameters, and ensure safe and stable plant performance. Daily tasks include conducting routine inspections, logging operational data, coordinating start-up and shutdown activities, and supporting maintenance by identifying and reporting equipment issues. As Shift Lead, the role involves assigning tasks, overseeing shift activities, ensuring adherence to safety and operating procedures, and communicating with management and other departments about production status and incidents. The position requires strict compliance with safety regulations, participation in incident reporting and investigations, and contribution to continuous improvement and operational best practices.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of power plant operations and 3rd Class Power Engineering principles, including safe operation of boilers, pressure vessels, and associated equipment.
- Experience with Delta V or similar distributed control systems (DCS), panel operation, process monitoring, and alarm management.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, including shift supervision, task coordination, mentoring of team members, and clear communication across departments.
- Solid understanding of industrial safety practices, regulatory compliance, lockout/tagout procedures, and incident reporting requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation such as P&IDs, operating manuals, and standard operating procedures.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot process and equipment issues under time-sensitive conditions.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including accurate log keeping, shift handover notes, and incident reports.
- Proven ability to work in a physically demanding industrial environment, including working in varying temperatures, standing for extended periods, and using personal protective equipment.
- Relevant certification as a 3rd Class Power Engineer (or working toward it), with registration in good standing where applicable.
- Previous experience in industrial, energy, or processing facilities is an asset, particularly in roles involving control room operation or shift leadership.
- Basic computer literacy and familiarity with plant data management systems for recording and analyzing operational information.
