Original job description

DCL International Inc. is a global provider of emissions-control solutions for off-highway vehicles, stationary engines, industrial processes, and specialized on-highway vehicles. We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer to join our Engineering team. This hands-on role focuses on SolidWorks design, manufacturing-ready drawings, design for manufacturability, fabricated assemblies, and production support.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and production drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Design emission-control products, silencers, stacks, working platforms, and related mechanical components.
  • Design sheet-metal parts, welded and fabricated assemblies, tooling, and fixtures.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFM/DFA) principles to optimize designs for fabrication, welding, forming, machining, assembly, installation, and serviceability.
  • Prepare accurate manufacturing drawings with appropriate GD&T, dimensions, tolerances, materials, and fabrication details.
  • Create and maintain accurate multi-level Bills of Materials (BOMs) in the ERP system.
  • Support design reviews, prototype builds, fabrication, assembly, and production troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Sales, Manufacturing, Quality, and Procurement to resolve technical and manufacturing issues.
  • Support engineering changes, drawing revisions, and continuous product and process improvements.
  • Travel to customer or project sites for troubleshooting, as required.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant mechanical design experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks, including part modeling, assemblies, sheet-metal design, weldments, and detailed production drawings.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing fabrication and assembly drawings for manufacturing.
  • Strong practical knowledge of sheet-metal fabrication, welding, forming, machining, and mechanical assembly processes.
  • Good understanding of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFM/DFA) principles.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, dimensioning, tolerancing, and engineering drawing practices.
  • Experience creating and maintaining BOMs; ERP system experience is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Experience with tooling, fixtures, prototype builds, and shop-floor troubleshooting is an asset.
  • Experience with emission-control products, silencers, stacks, industrial equipment, or similar fabricated products is an asset.
  • Experience with SolidWorks Simulation, FEA, or CFD is an asset.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, organizational, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Why Join DCL?

This position offers the opportunity to work on a variety of engineered products while collaborating closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, Quality, and other cross-functional teams. The role provides hands-on involvement throughout the design and manufacturing process, from concept development through production support and continuous improvement.
