As General Foreman, you will lead the electrical scope on major industrial projects, directing multiple foremen and their crews. The focus is primarily construction, with limited commissioning and maintenance.
Main Responsibilities
Leadership & Planning
- Direct, mentor, and evaluate electrical foremen, journeymen, and apprentices across multiple crews, shifts, and work areas
- Develop and manage the electrical execution plan, including look-ahead schedules, manpower loading, and sequencing of work to meet project milestones and deadlines
- Allocate crews, tools, and equipment across work fronts; identify resource gaps early and work with project management on staffing and mobilization needs
- Lead and participate in foreman, coordination, and progress meetings, reporting on productivity, schedule status, risks, and resource needs
- Coordinate with other disciplines (civil, mechanical, piping, instrumentation, scaffolding, etc.) to resolve interferences and keep work fronts clear
Safety
- Champion a strong safety culture; lead by example in enforcing site safety policies and stop work when necessary
- Review and approve hazard assessments, safe work plans, and permits; ensure foremen lead effective daily tailgate/toolbox meetings
- Participate in incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are implemented
Technical Execution & Quality
- Interpret and communicate drawings, blueprints, schematics, P&IDs, and electrical code requirements to foremen and crews
- Ensure all work meets applicable codes, standards, and client specifications; support QA/QC, inspections, and turnover documentation
- Oversee installation of conduit, feeders, cable tray, junction boxes, switchgear, transformers, motors, generators, and other electrical components
- Oversee installation and testing of switchgear, transformers, switchboard meters, regulators, and reactors
- Oversee gland and termination of cables in panels, junction boxes, and electrical equipment
- Oversee installation of SR and MI EHT on piping as per isometric drawings
- Oversee installation, maintenance, and calibration of industrial instrumentation and related devices
- Support pre-commissioning, loop checks, and system turnover activities as required
Cost, Productivity & Materials
- Monitor productivity, installed quantities, and labour hours against budget; identify variances and implement corrective actions
- Review and communicate scope changes, technical issues, and potential change orders to project management
- Coordinate procurement, laydown, and staging of materials and tools; inspect incoming materials and equipment for specification compliance
- Ensure daily field reports, timesheets, and progress documentation are completed accurately and on time
Client & Stakeholder Relations
- Serve as a key field-level contact for the client and project management, building strong, collaborative relationships
- May be required to operate light equipment and vehicles
Required Skills
- Valid Red Seal Journeyman Electrician Certificate (trade credential must be recognized in Alberta)
- Minimum 5+ years of field leadership experience in industrial electrical construction, including 2–3+ years as a foreman or general foreman
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage multiple foremen and large crews of journeymen and apprentices
- Strong working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code, safety regulations, and industry standards
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and P&IDs
- Experience with scheduling, manpower planning, and productivity tracking on large industrial projects
- Excellent communication and conflict-resolution skills; able to convey technical information clearly to crews, management, and clients
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills; able to prioritize and act on instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- High degree of attention to detail to prevent injury to self and others
- Proficient in field documentation, including hazard assessments, daily reports, and timesheets; comfortable with project software and digital tools
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Rotation: 14/7 (shift cycle is subject to change)
- Day shift (night shift may be required based on client needs)
- Travel is required; flights offered from Calgary or Edmonton
- Camp accommodations provided
- Ability to lift and carry objects independently or as a team
- Ability to meet and maintain site access requirements
