Original job description

WHAT ON EARTH IS DECIEM?

We are a collective of disrupters and doers, of creatives and scientists, with a mission to reimagine the world of beauty.

Since inception, our vertically integrated structure, including our own laboratories, manufacturing, retail stores, and brand infrastructure, have enabled us to rapidly identify opportunities and deliver quality. Home to The Ordinary, NIOD, AVESTAN, and other emerging brands, our goal is to create with purpose. We were founded on the principle of doing everything that others don’t. Because normal gets you nowhere.

We are DECIEM, The Abnormal Beauty Company.

We are growing rapidly and we’re looking for someone who shares this vision and wants to grow with us!

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

The Sourcing Manager, Packaging role will direct the end-to-end packaging development and procurement lifecycle. This position is essential to ensure packaging materials comply with emerging legal and environmental standards, mitigating risks of regulatory penalties, retail distribution blocks, or brand reputation loss. The incumbent will partner intimately with global cross-functional teams including manufacturing, engineering, QA/QC, and R&D. The core function involves driving continuous improvement, ensuring complex packaging development projects finish strictly on time and within budget, and leading enterprise-wide transformation initiatives.

This is a hybrid role, based 3 days on-site in our Toronto office. It is a contract role ending November 30th, 2027.

PAY RANGE

The anticipated base salary for this position is $97,000 to $107,000

Exact salary depends on several factors such as experience, skills, education, and budget. Salary range may vary based on geographic location.

WHAT YOU'D BE DOING IN THIS ROLE

Regulatory Compliance & Enterprise Initiatives

Ensure packaging materials comply with rapidly evolving government regulations, including Extended Producer Responsibility laws, mandatory post-consumer recycled content requirements, and chemical composition restrictions.
Redesign all primary packaging components to meet updated regulatory and material criteria.
Formally document, standardize, and finalize all technical packaging specifications across the full product portfolio.

End-to-End Packaging Execution & Launch Delivery

Direct and oversee all new product packaging development projects from concept through commercialization.
Ensure seamless cross-functional execution across engineering, procurement, and manufacturing to protect critical launch dates and go-to-market revenue.
Achieve ≥95% On-Time In-Full (OTIF) launch delivery for all packaging projects while maintaining 100% adherence to project budget targets.

Cost Savings, Value Engineering & Strategic Sourcing

Identify, develop, and execute strategic cost-saving initiatives and value engineering across both new and existing packaging components.
Participate in high-value RFP/RFQ programs and negotiate global supplier agreements.

Manufacturing Efficiency & Process Standardization

Partner with Manufacturing and Engineering teams to optimize packaging structural designs for automated production line compatibility.
Reduce packaging-attributable production line downtime by 10–15% and decrease operational packaging scrap/waste rates.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED TO GET THE JOB DONE

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, or a related field (Master's degree is a plus).
7+ years of progressive experience in packaging sourcing, procurement, or packaging engineering, preferably within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Requires hands-on R&D experience evaluating raw material interactions with packaging substrates.
Must be capable of analyzing and interpreting the chemical compositions of packaging materials to ensure product stability, chemical safety, and regulatory compliance.
Proven engineering expertise directly on automated manufacturing and production lines, with deep technical knowledge of machine tolerances, structural design limits, and operational line optimization to minimize downtime and packaging waste.
Rare combination of technical packaging engineering, cross-functional R&D leadership, and commercial procurement skills necessary to manage complex RFP programs and lead strategic supplier negotiations.

WHAT YOU'LL BE GAINING BY JOINING OUR TEAM

There’s a lot of good stuff that comes along with being a DECIEM team member. Here’s a few of our favourite perks and benefits, in no particular order…

Generous Vacation & Personal Days, plus additional time off for volunteering in your community, voting, peaceful protesting, celebrating your birthday, and more.
6 months of paid time off for new parents (inclusive of all genders).
Work from anywhere 4 weeks per year.
A hybrid work model (for applicable roles).
Summer Friday’s - get off at 1pm all summer long! (for applicable roles).
A dog-friendly office (and lots of cute dogs to play with).
Unlimited access to an Employee Assistance Program that includes mental health care, mindfulness programs, and more.
Access to Development Grants & a LinkedIn Learning membership to help you keep growing and learning.
A generous discount on DECIEM products for you, your family, and your friends.
