Technical Specialist – Real Property Management (Real Property Spatial Data Requirements Specialist)
Turn data into decisions that support Canada’s defence.
Every building, base and piece of infrastructure that supports the Canadian Armed Forces tells a story through its data. We’re looking for a curious, detail-driven specialist to help shape how that story is captured, structured and used. If you love making complex information usable, and want your work to matter, this is your opportunity to leave a lasting mark on how the Department of National Defence manages its real property.
Why you’ll love working here
At DCC, you’ll get the chance to learn, excel and engage in genuinely meaningful work. We’re big enough to take on multi-million-dollar projects, yet small enough to deliver personal service, which means your ideas are heard and your contribution is visible. Every DCC employee makes a difference by supporting Canada’s troops and contributing to the defence of the country.
- Purpose-driven work that directly supports the women and men who serve Canada.
- An award-winning, inclusive culture (EEAA winner, Gold Seal Employer, and PAIR Committed).
- A team that treats diversity as a strategic advantage.
- Room to grow your expertise in a specialized, future-focused field.
As part of our multi-disciplinary Spatial Data Services Program, you’ll support the real property data lifecycle for the Canadian Armed Forces and the Department of National Defence. You’ll work hand-in-hand with our Client-Partner’s project management office, engaging stakeholders and project teams to analyze, define and document the business requirements behind spatial data management and application development. In short, you’ll be the bridge between what the business needs and how the technology delivers it.
What You’ll Do
- Lead complex real property project work, spatial data guidance, technical reviews, strategic and development plans.
- Research, analyze and develop spatial-data policies, standards, processes and performance indicators.
- Generate statements of operational requirements, prepare business cases and conduct investigations.
- Create strategic and technical guidance to drive spatial initiatives, stakeholder engagement and communications.
- Design and manage data management projects that boost data maturity, system capability and new technology integration.
- Build information management strategies and tools to track and report on project requirements.
- Support business development, manage risk and nurture strong relationships across DCC, industry and client-partners.
You are skilled in business analysis and enjoy untangling complexity and bringing structure to projects. You’re comfortable working with diverse project teams and you speak the language of spatial data.
- Knowledge of best practices, methods, trends and legislation in real property data management, business analysis and project management.
- Familiarity with geomatics: Building Information Modelling (BIM), Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and/or Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
- A solid grasp of project and risk management principles, tools and techniques.
- Minimum: a college diploma in business analysis, data sciences, computer sciences, geomatics, architectural technology, civil technology or a related field, with five years’ relevant experience - or the equivalent.
- Preferred: a university degree in one of the above fields and/or additional project management training.
- Primarily a typical office environment with occasional travel.
- Some work may take place on construction sites, where basic safety equipment may occasionally be required.
Working with us offers excellent opportunities for growth and advancement - and entitles you to one of the job market’s best benefits packages valued at between 25 and 30% of your salary.
Your Package Includes
Health and Wellness
- 100% employer-paid annual sick leave, and health and dental premiums
- $400 wellness allowance to help cover expenses such as a gym membership
- $2,500 for mental health services on top of regular $2,500 paramedical coverage
- Telus Virtual Health Care and $750 Health Care Spending Account for some expenses not covered under provincial plans
- Life, accidental-death, and short-term disability insurance
- Enhanced inConfidence employee and family assistance program
- Maternity and parental leave top-up plan to 93% of regular gross earnings for up to 37 weeks
- Flexible workplace options, including $400 allowance every two years, to support working from home
- Public-service pension
