Position Summary

Defence Therapeutics is seeking bioconjugation scientist to join our research and development team. In this role, you will design, execute, and optimize the chemical linking of biomolecules - such as antibodies, proteins, and peptides - to small molecules and payloads to support our therapeutic pipeline– this is a regular full-time position, working onsite from Defence Therapeutics Montreal location.

This role is central to the team's ADC development work and requires someone who can independently perform bioconjugation chemistry and operate core analytical instrumentation from day one.

Responsibilities

Design and execute bioconjugation strategies using standard chemistry methodologies (NHS-ester, maleimide, click chemistry, site-specific labeling).
Purify modified biomolecules and conjugates using FPLC including size exclusion chromatography (SEC), hydrophobic interaction chromatography (HIC), and ion-exchange chromatography (IEX).
Characterize conjugates using analytical tools including HPLC (SEC, HIC, IEX), LC-MS, SDS-PAGE, UV-Vis spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering (DLS), and capillary electrophoresis.
Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot analytical and synthesis equipment.
Analyze complex analytical datasets and present findings to cross-functional project teams.
Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records, including experimental protocols and results.
Collaborate closely with scientists on shared projects and lab operations.
Communicate results, progress, and technical issues clearly to the group manager and management team.
Support general lab operations and processes.

Qualifications

PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field with 0–2 years of relevant experience, OR a Master's degree in a related field with 0–5 years of relevant experience.
Theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience with bioconjugation techniques, linker chemistry, and handling sensitive biomolecules.
Demonstrated hands-on experience operating HPLC and FPLC instrumentation.
Familiarity with in vitro or in vivo evaluation of conjugated constructs.
Ability to work independently in the lab with minimal technical oversight or training.

Il s’agit d’un poste permanent à temps plein, en présentiel, à nos installations de Montréal.

Ce rôle est au cœur des activités de développement des conjugués anticorps-médicament (ADC) de l’entreprise et requiert une personne capable de réaliser de façon autonome des travaux de chimie de bioconjugaison et d’utiliser les principaux instruments analytiques dès son entrée en poste.

Responsabilités

Concevoir et mettre en œuvre des stratégies de bioconjugaison à l’aide de méthodologies de chimie reconnues (p. ex. : esters NHS, chimie des maléimides, chimie « click », marquage spécifique de site).
Purifier des biomolécules modifiées et des conjugués à l’aide de systèmes de chromatographie liquide de protéines rapide (FPLC), notamment par chromatographie d’exclusion de taille (SEC), chromatographie d’interaction hydrophobe (HIC) et chromatographie d’échange d’ions (IEX).
Caractériser les conjugués à l’aide de techniques analytiques incluant la chromatographie liquide haute performance (HPLC : SEC, HIC, IEX), la chromatographie liquide couplée à la spectrométrie de masse (LC-MS), l’électrophorèse SDS-PAGE, la spectroscopie UV-Visible, la diffusion dynamique de la lumière (DLS) et l’électrophorèse capillaire.
Assurer l’utilisation, l’entretien et le dépannage des équipements analytiques et de synthèse.
Analyser des ensembles de données analytiques complexes et présenter les résultats aux équipes de projet multidisciplinaires.
Maintenir une documentation de laboratoire précise et complète, incluant les protocoles expérimentaux et les résultats.
Collaborer étroitement avec les autres scientifiques sur les projets partagés et les opérations du laboratoire.
Communiquer clairement les résultats, l’avancement des travaux et les enjeux techniques au gestionnaire de groupe et à l’équipe de direction.
Contribuer aux opérations et aux processus généraux du laboratoire.

Qualifications

Doctorat (Ph. D) en chimie, biochimie ou dans un domaine connexe avec 0 à 2 ans d’expérience pertinente, OU maîtrise dans un domaine connexe avec 0 à 5 ans d’expérience pertinente.
Solides connaissances théoriques et expérience pratique des techniques de bioconjugaison, de la chimie des agents de liaison (« linkers ») et de la manipulation de biomolécules sensibles.
Expérience pratique démontrée dans l’utilisation d’instruments HPLC et FPLC.
Connaissance des évaluations in vitro et/ou in vivo de bioconjugués.
Capacité à travailler de façon autonome en laboratoire avec un minimum de supervision technique ou de formation.
