Job description:
About Defense Fire Protection
Defense Fire Protection Inc. is a growing Calgary-based fire protection company providing inspection, service, installation, and maintenance of commercial fire and life-safety systems.
Our services include fire extinguishers, fire alarm systems, kitchen fire suppression systems, emergency lighting, fire hoses, and other fire protection services.
We are focused on building long-term customer relationships by providing dependable service, quality workmanship, strong communication, and knowledgeable fire protection solutions.
As we continue to grow, we are looking for an Outside Sales Representative to help expand our customer base throughout Calgary and the surrounding area.
The Position:
The Outside Sales Representative will be responsible for developing new commercial accounts and building relationships with businesses, property managers, facility managers, contractors, and other potential customers.
This is a proactive sales position. A significant portion of the role will involve prospecting, cold calling, visiting potential customers, networking, following up on leads, and developing opportunities from initial contact through to close.
You will work closely with our internal sales and operations teams to ensure opportunities are properly quoted, followed up on, and transitioned into long-term customer relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Prospect and develop new commercial customers throughout Calgary and surrounding areas.
- Conduct outbound calls, emails, and in-person visits to prospective customers.
- Schedule and attend sales meetings and site visits.
- Build relationships with property managers, building owners, facility managers, general contractors, restaurants, industrial customers, and other commercial organizations.
- Identify customer fire protection requirements and potential sales opportunities.
- Generate opportunities for recurring inspections, service work, repairs, installations, and projects.
- Work with the estimating and operations teams to develop proposals and quotations.
- Present proposals and explain Defense Fire Protection's services to prospective customers.
- Consistently follow up on outstanding quotations and opportunities.
- Maintain accurate customer, opportunity, and follow-up information in Pipedrive CRM.
- Ensure every active sales opportunity has a clearly defined next action.
- Maintain an organized sales pipeline and provide regular updates on opportunities.
- Develop referral and networking relationships within the Calgary business community.
- Represent Defense Fire Protection professionally at customer locations, meetings, networking events, and industry events.
- Meet agreed-upon activity, pipeline, and sales targets.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is comfortable creating opportunities rather than waiting for leads to arrive.
- Confident approaching and speaking with new people.
- Comfortable with cold calling and in-person prospecting.
- Professional and personable when dealing with customers.
- Self-motivated and able to manage their own schedule.
- Persistent with follow-ups without being overly aggressive.
- Organized and comfortable managing a large number of opportunities simultaneously.
- Comfortable using CRM software and maintaining accurate records.
- Able to communicate clearly through phone, email, and face-to-face meetings.
- Comfortable working independently while remaining accountable to the sales team.
- Interested in developing long-term customer relationships rather than focusing exclusively on one-time transactions.
- Willing to learn the technical side of the fire protection industry.
Qualifications
Required
- 2+ years of sales, business development, account management, or relevant customer-facing experience.
- Valid Alberta driver's licence.
- Reliable transportation.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Comfortable using computers, email, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, and CRM software.
- Ability to legally work in Canada.
Preferred but not required
- Previous B2B outside sales experience.
- Experience selling commercial services.
- Experience working with property management, construction, facilities management, trades, or building services.
- Existing relationships within the Calgary commercial market.
- Previous experience with Pipedrive or another CRM.
- Knowledge of the fire protection or life-safety industry.
Fire protection experience is an asset but is not required. Training will be provided.
Compensation
Base Salary: $55,000 per year
