The Opportunity
The Data Engineering Lead is responsible for setting and driving the technological vision, architecture, and development practices for data solutions across Technology Solutions. This role provides hands-on technical leadership and strategic oversight across multiple squads, enabling the design and execution of scalable, reusable, and high-quality data products and pipelines. The Lead is a senior technical authority who advances engineering excellence by strengthening CI/CD, automation, and modern data engineering standards. They collaborate with engineering managers, architects, and business stakeholders to translate business needs into resource, roadmap-aligned data delivery and ensure strong alignment between data needs and enterprise goals. This role requires thought leadership, innovation, and the ability to anticipate and solve complex technical challenges.
What to Expect
- Provide technical leadership for designing scalable, high-quality data platforms, pipelines, integrations, and analytics solutions aligned with enterprise architecture standards.
- Lead the adoption of CI/CD, test automation, TDD, and engineering best practices across multiple data engineering teams.
- Ensure compliance with enterprise security, governance, architectural frameworks, and data management standards.
- Drive modernization initiatives by evaluating emerging technologies and implementing scalable, reusable, and resilient data solutions.
- Integrate AI, machine learning, and advanced analytics capabilities into data engineering processes and platforms.
- Translate business and data strategy into actionable technical roadmaps, priorities, and execution plans.
- Collaborate with data leaders, architects, project managers, and business stakeholders to deliver enterprise-wide data initiatives.
- Act as the senior technical escalation point for complex data, platform, pipeline, and data quality challenges.
- Mentor and influence engineering teams, promoting technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous skill development.
- Bring deep expertise in GCP, Databricks, Python, SQL, cloud and big data technologies, data architecture, ETL/ELT, data modeling, Agile delivery, and modern data engineering practices.
What you Bring
- University degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cyber Security, or related discipline.
- 7-10 years of experience in data engineering, data/application development, or a similar field within enterprise environments.
- 4+ years of technical leadership experience.
- Experience with ML-enabled data systems, cloud data platforms, CI/CD, and modern data engineering frameworks.
- Insurance industry experience is an asset.
- Certifications in cloud technologies, data engineering, Agile, or DevOps are considered strong assets.
Salary Range: $108,700-$158,700
Actual salary for the role may vary depending on work location of the successful candidate and other factors including but not limited to, skills, education, experience, working conditions and the local labour market.
