ROLE

Dentons Canada LLP is currently recruiting for a Project Control Specialist who will serve as the central project controls resource, providing governance, visibility, and delivery support across the Canada region. The Project Control Specialist manages assigned small and medium-sized Business Technology projects from initiation through transition and closure, with accountability for planning, coordination, execution, monitoring, control, stakeholder communication, and delivery outcomes. In parallel, the role supports project managers and portfolio leads across larger or more complex initiatives by providing reliable project information, consistent controls, and timely visibility into schedule, cost, scope, risks, issues, dependencies, decisions, actions, resources, and delivery readiness.

Working across multiple initiatives, the Project Control Specialist maintains core project records and reporting routines, validates the quality and completeness of project data, and helps ensure that agreed governance standards, stage expectations, and documentation requirements are applied consistently.

The role partners closely with project managers, portfolio leads, technology teams, business stakeholders, vendors, and other enabling functions. The successful candidate brings practical project leadership, strong analytical discipline, sound judgment, and a service-oriented approach, while escalating emerging concerns early and presenting information in a clear, decision-ready format.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

Manages assigned small and medium-sized projects from initiation through transition and closure, developing the project charter, delivery plan, schedule, governance, stakeholder approach, and required project artifacts.
Leads day-to-day coordination and execution for assigned projects, aligning team members and vendors, tracking deliverables, facilitating decisions, resolving obstacles, and escalating matters that may affect agreed outcomes.
Supports project managers and portfolio leads on larger or more complex initiatives by establishing and maintaining controls appropriate to project size, complexity, risk, and delivery approach.
Develops, maintains, and quality-checks integrated schedules, milestones, dependencies, constraints, critical activities, baseline dates, and recovery plans, and communicates forecast impacts.
Produces accurate project and portfolio reporting, dashboards, status summaries, governance packs, and decision-support materials, presenting risks, variances, trends, and required actions clearly.
Maintains RAID logs, action and decision registers, change logs, resource forecasts, reporting calendars, and project repositories, ensuring information is current, complete, traceable, and appropriately controlled.
Monitors risks, issues, assumptions, dependencies, decisions, and actions; confirms ownership and target dates; drives follow-up; and escalates overdue or material items with clear context and recommendations.
Coordinates governance activities, including status cycles, working-group reviews, leadership checkpoints, steering committee inputs, change control, and stage or gate readiness.
Supports resource and capacity planning, testing, cutover, operational readiness, transition, and closeout, while identifying cross-project trends, control gaps, and opportunities to improve PMO practices.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS

Demonstrated ability to manage small and medium-sized projects, coordinating cross-functional teams and delivering outcomes within scope, schedule, budget, and quality expectations.
Strong knowledge of project planning, scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, risk and issue management, change control, governance, status reporting, transition, and project closure.
Highly organized and analytical, with strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret project data, identify trends, and recommend corrective actions.
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with project managers, technical teams, business stakeholders, vendors, and leadership, while facilitating meetings, driving accountability, and escalating concerns as needed.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex project information clearly to technical, business, and executive audiences.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft 365 tools; experience with Planner, Smartsheet, Power BI, Power Platform, or similar solutions is an asset. Comfortable working within predictive, agile, and hybrid delivery environments.
Bachelor's degree or diploma in a related field (or equivalent experience), with a minimum of three years' experience in project coordination, project management, PMO/project controls, scheduling, financial analysis, or portfolio reporting. Experience supporting technology projects and project management certifications (CAPM, PMP, PRINCE2, PMI-SP, or equivalent) are considered assets.

The target salary range for this position is $75,000 to $82,000, commensurate with the successful candidate’s skills, experience, and qualifications.
